Really scared of seeing my doctor :(

Finally going to bite the bullet and visit my doctor for a check-up for the first time since 2018. Back then, I was perfectly healthy but I’ve drank heavily for years. Most recently, I’ve had a lot of digestive problems post-COVID which are causing me a lot of stress. While I’ve weened off alcohol and am now completely sober, I have a lot of health anxiety and I’m really afraid of what I’ll find out :frowning:

I was hella nervous/anxious about my first check up after getting sober too, had been a while since I had been.

Turned out pretty good, just an iron deficiency.

Positive vibes your way pal, you won’t know til you know and it is definitely better to know and have a plan in place if something isn’t going right.

Im the same, with the anxiety, really bad. Do your doctor know why you want a check up?
I drank alot for about 8years, normal drinking before that. At the end of my drinking could drink 2bottles of wine a day.
All my check up at doctor was A-OK. But still the anxiety tell me otherwise.

Good luck at the doctor

I haven’t spoken to him yet. My main purpose for the check up is for my digestive issues, but I’m definitely going to bring up the drinking. At my worst, I was drinking a bottle a day for about 2 years and it got worse around the holidays. I’m hoping I’m not too far gone :pensive:

Whats about your digestive?
I hope everything goes well, just be true and open with your doctor. And at least you will know and if there is something you can get help.

TMI but I had diarrhea as a symptom and I just can’t seem to kick it. It’s been on and off for a week and a half and seems to be triggered by a lot of different foods. I just wanted to get it checked out since the colour is a little off too and it’s stressing me out lol

I can relate, from when I was still drinking, only I cant relate it to been triggerd from foods.
Its good you have a check up, so you know where you stand

I’m hoping they’ll find something minor :pensive: Had you been experiencing any symptoms when you went for your doctors visit?

My pancreas really caused me a lot of trouble, even after getting sober. My stomach was pretty messed up. You definitely want a full blood panel. Don’t put it off, it could be a super easy fix, or it could be something that needs medical attention. Either way, you gained valuable information and can begin to heal your body with a doctor’s guidance.

Again, please don’t put it off!
Wishing you the best

Was it treatable at least? My appointment is 2 weeks from now so my health anxiety has my brain thinking of all the worst case scenarios right now lol

Check the sober poops thread. Seriously! Lots of us had “digestive issues” when we stopped drinking.

No, I was feeling pretty decent overall. I had been sober for about 5 months and regularly walking and doing healthy stuff, lost about 35 pounds in those first few months.

Like Dan said, digestive changes are quite regular early in sobriety, gut bacteria changing, bile production changing, eating habits usually get better and that changes things.

Wont know til you go, I know it’s difficult to not be overly anxious but just breathe and take solace in the fact that you will know soon.

Yep. Doing great now. You will be okay and feel much better after your appointment. Don’t think about it, it’s weeks away. All you can do is be present, then you just make it to your appointment when the day comes. Don’t catastrophize a routine checkup!
