Really trying this time

Hi,

I am new to this forum so I decided to share a little story to begin with.

I have been drinking pretty regularly for 2 years now. Never a really large amount, but I did have around two beers every single day. I first kept it to the weekends, then it went to all days except for days where I had an exam, and then all days. I started feeling nervous when I couldn’t drink and needed it to escape my anxieties and calm down. I used this app but never made over 10 days.

Now I moved to a new country since the summer. Alcohol is much more expensive here and only some stores sell it. That’s what made me decide to quit drinking again. I want to make a new start here and want to be a better version of my self. I am feeling more anxiety than before, especially in social and public situations, but I try to handle it and just excuse myself to go to the bathroom instead of picking up a drink. When I am alone it gets pretty tough but it helps a lot it is not possible to buy any alcohol after 20:00 here outside of bars.

Now I am on 2 months on this app and pretty happy with how I am doing. I feel confident I can keep on going longer and deal better with my anxieties.

Reading on this forum helps me a lot to gain courage to keep going on staying sober so thanks for that. I hope to stick around for longer this time.

Hi! I’m also (very) new here. I have a panic disorder and yoga has helped me with that greatly. Before I go out I do a 30 minute stretching routine and it helps regulate my heart rate. I apologize for the unsolicited advice… we’re in this together and I can personally use all the advice I can get!!

You got this and thank you for sharing:)

Thanks for your reply, the advice is great. I might look into some more ways to regulate my anxious feelings on the spot as well. It usually does not come up beforehand. But thanks so much for your advice, it means a lot to me!

That’s great @J_Bell - it sounds like you know what you want and you’re going for it. Good for you!
