I want to share honestly that I have relapsed again over the past five days. I made credits at two wine shops and borrowed money from two friends during this time.
However, today, I’ve started fasting as part of preparing for a pilgrimage. According to Hindu practices, I must stay away from meat, drugs, alcohol, and sex during this period. This marks Day 1 of my commitment.
I believe this fasting period is an opportunity to stay sober for at least a month. During this time, I plan to attend meetings and focus on building inner strength to stay on the right path.
Please support me and share your thoughts or advice. I genuinely want this to be the turning point in my journey toward sobriety.
I hope this is your path to sobriaty Sarath.
I missed you here at the forum for a couple of days and my experience is that means you have relapsed. Why not come here beforehand when you feel the “itch” to drink?
There is always a way to keep drinking, but there is always a way out of it too. I hope you found it.
Yes @SoberWalker. Each day i drink i’m saying myself that will stop from tomorrow. But years are passed away but I could not stop drinking.
I want to close to my higher power, so this fasting season may help. Also attending meetings as much possible.
I’m good Lance, thank you for asking. I’m more then 6 years sober and 12,5 ore so years into recovery. Counted from my first long stint of sober days (5 years). After those first 5 sober years I thought I was cured and tried moderation. That didn’t work so back on track since 18 september 2018 And you?
I am very glad to see you here Sarath. We all need to find our way to sobriety. So this one might be right for you.
Are you part of a group who prepares for this pilgrimage? Other people who are also practicing abstinence with you?
And if I may ask: What is the destination of your pilgrimage?
Are you genuinely wanting advice or are you just looking for people to tell you it’s going to be okay? And if you do you get advice do you have the willingness to follow it?
This is great! A pilgrimage where you are surrounded by others also abstaining from the same things is going to be helpful. Glad to see that you will also be putting in the work during this time with meetings.
If you want this to work, you do need to stay away from triggers. Stay away from friends who encourage you to drink and find other hobbies/ routines that will become part of your daily practices once the pilgrimage is over.
We can’t succeed in life or any journey when we arent fully committed. You do need to let go of the old lifestyle to make room for the new.
Wishing you success…here to support you and looking forward to seeing your daily progress
I don’t want to be a killjoy here but I think you should just concentrate on alcohol and drugs I would stay eating meat as your body will be craving for stuff and if stop eating meat it will crave something else to replace that too anyway that’s my opinion but I hope you do well
My advice is…get a sponsor and starting working the steps. Going to meetings alone usually isn’t enough. Dive deeper into the reasons why you resort back to alcohol and fix them. Going to a 12 step program and not working the steps is like going out to eat and not ordering any food.
I found my drinking stemmed from a lot of FEAR. I used to Fear Everything And Run. Now, I Face Everything And Recover.
