I could create a huge to do list! All sorts of stuff needs dealing with…..that would be helpful !
Thanks.

Lack of „motivation“ and boredom can have many reasons. For example, depression or ADHD Did you consider to check out your mental health with a professional?
For me, finding things that distract me, was really important. For some time, it was just a game on my phone, then getting creative with watercolors, then podcasts… There’s plenty of things to kill time. But please make sure your mental health is okay.

Thankyou DanielaJ. You are all very helpful and kind!
I love to do lists, checklidts, all sorts of lists ![]()
I have list for big tasks to cut them down in smaller tasks I can handle without getting overwhelmed, I have lists for my wanna-would love to-do/have things, I have ordinary daily tasks lists (helpful when my long covid mushbrain wanders off), I have needs to be done but not urgent lists for many parts of my life, a garden list, a selfcare list, a go meet those friends in real life list … the list goes on ![]()
I like structure and my life organized, helps to focus on balancing my energy with what needs to get done, what I want to do and where I need to step back.
Pro tip 1: Just do, especially when you are not keen on doing something (for me that’s mowing for example). You don’t have to do it all, do a part, 10 minutes, twice a day, every day. You will be surprised how quickly those little things add up.
Pro tip 2: Reward yourself with a meditation and rest. This also adds up to a better balance quickly.
Keep going ![]()
I do lists aswell, i often talk about me having a ‘messy head’ things darting around in there left, right and centre…i get overwhelmed easily and bored easily so the lists serve as a way for me to organise my brain and to focus on the tasks at hand, i also tick off the tasks each time i complete them which gives a nice sense of accomplishment too which is always good for the soul ![]()
Lists are things that I can accomplish now that I am sober, but they can’t get me sober.
Distractions are fun activities that I get to do because I am sober.
Working on my sobriety through dedication action is what got me sober and what will keep me sober. For me this was rehab, outpatient, AA (including sponsorship and step work), sober living, therapy and medication.
Recovery programs have the absolute highest chance of getting a person sober, whether it be AA, SMART, dharma recovery , celebrate recovery, or something else. You said you live in the UK, there’s plenty of programs there if put in some effort to look.
Sobriety will not show up at your door because you want it to. You have to seek it out. You mentioned how you are bored, well then make sobriety your hobby
I second this and it’s exactly what I did; 7 years later, I’d say it worked.
Here’s a big step that helped me, maybe you might find some value in it as well.
Thank you. Everything you state here is absoloutely true!
I read a comment on that thread that Alcohol give me a break from myself. Thats how i feel and that is not right. I should not feel like that. I’m not a bada person, just a bit messed up now and then! I have a great family, great kids and i need to organise my thoughts as you have.
Thanks again.
