Good morning sober runners. I unlocked a new accomplishment today thanks to my garmin training plan. I ran for 30min non stop. NO WALKING. It was tough to run at a slower pace but it helped me go longer and not burn out. So proud of myself. Not bad for barely getting out of bed in time this morning

And i earned a badge ive been working on

Went to the doc and found out my hip issue is probably iliopsoas tendinopathy. Glad it’s not arthritis. Got some proper strength training exercises to do now.

Super solid stuff for 5k sunday! No walk breaks  I’m working through a 10k plan to try and get faster at that and if I can keep going like this I will be able to :woman_running:t2::heart:

Thats funny @Runningfree

Prerace jitters over here. Longest race of the year tomorrow. 12k around a city lake. Left knee pain. Right foot pain. Didnt get to train this week. We will see how it goes…say a runners prayer for me

Maybe you should see about a massage after your race? I’m super lucky and finally found a good masseuse that I can go to. She use to be a PT and knows her way around. She pretty much just focuses on my legs since my back is so sensitive.

You can do the race! Mind over matter. A nice epsom salt bath after and some ice hot is my go to for sore/hurting legs.

5k sunday :white_check_mark::white_check_mark: You can see the hike in my pace when I encountered some drunk people and the man was rattling off some weird stuff. That threw my whole run off. I was trying to recover from going out to fast. I got it done though :woman_running:t2: Next sunday I have my wig run with my running friend. Pretty excited for that. I think it will be fun!

Pretty solid stuff this morning. It’s like once I take a walk break I can’t get back in the groove but that’s why I keep working. I use to not even be able to run 1 mile much less 3 in a row. I’m going get my a 10k PR. I know I can!

I really want to start running.
This may sound foolish, but I don’t know where to start.

I’m overweight, and have already had 2 mini-strokes and a heart attack at 36. So, I don’t want to be foolhardy in the beginning.

Any suggestions on where and how I should start training?

Hey @ICanAndWill this thread inspired me to start running. I like the old adage you need to walk before you can run  increase movement, get shoes that fit to avoid blisters

Then i started with a couch25k running plan.

Good run yesterday am. Not sure how ive elevated to a full 10min run before my run stage with garmin but here we are…it was tough but im proud of my performance

I agree with @Cjp
Walking would be a great place to start. Considering your heart issues, you should look into the Jeff Galloway method. It’s a walk/run interval system. You will want to keep your heart rate low when you start out.

Thanks for the suggestions!!!

I’ve been increasing my walking little by little. In fact, I’m on my way home from a 3? Mile walk.

I will look into the Couch25K, and let y’all know how I do each week. :crossed_fingers:t2:
