Scale Models - Recovery Lifesaver

Hi all,

Filling the void or abyss cocaine has left me with in recovery. Ive discovered scale models as a hobby.

Its took me 49 years to get into but i love it. Its perfect for distraction and good wholesome fun.

Anybody else done the same?

I’d love to see all your efforts

Here are some of mine..

Im doing a U boat at the moment but its a big project.:anchor:

@Justaman Awesome! I love all the detail, especially the mud splatter!

I don’t do scaled models, but I really enjoy building and painting miniature figures from the Warhammer 40k universe! It’s definitely a great way to spend free time! In terms of healthy distractions, this is up there on my list! Looking forward to seeing your U-Boat!

The picture below is a before, work in progress and final product version of the set I’m working on! The bases they stand on are a little bigger than a US quarter for a matter of scale :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Somehow I accidentally replied to your comment @ICanAndWill, sorry for the confusion if I caused any

Really cool! Thanks for sharing. I started buying small Lego sets the last few months and have a growing hot wheels collection. I love going to the toy isle at the store now and literaly have a budget for toys every week or my allowance. There is so many fun hobbies and things to do with free time. It’s nice having the extra funds to buy stuff like this and I might have to buy a model to put together myself.. that would be cool if they have a el Camino model car! Anyway thanks for the post and giving me the idea to try this

Incredible detail mate.

I have got so many figures and tank crews to do but i can get to grips with painting them. It seems so hard.

Im doing a large diorama for the u-boat. Its going to be a rough north atlantic with the watch crew on the conning tower. Its 1:35 scale.

The ocean is going to be aluminium foil, tissue paper and cotton wool!

In the UK we have a charity called models for heroes. It basically helps veterans with problems by way of scale models. Thats what got me started. Now i just love going the model shop and instead of putting £70 up my nose a day, i spend £25 and it will keep me entertained for a week or two.

Havnt personally dabbled with models
However been pretty into Lego since just before christmas. (Hadnt touched lego since i was 12 now im basically a collector lol) Even bought a lockable IKEA glass cabinet just for it as i was getting more. Really kept the cravings at bay and playing legos at night id say helped keep me distracted to simultaneously quit smoking in the early days.

Thanks!

What kind of paint are you working with?

Sounds like a good plan, and great way to spend money rather than on the booger sugar :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

I use the Tamiya paints mainly.

The pack i received from models for heroes were Vallejo paints. To be honest when the tamiya has gone im going to start using the Vallejo. I cant give you a reason but i just like them better.

I would love to have a go at lego, but in my recovery Ive become fascinated with the German armour in the War.

Interesting, I had never heard of Tayima, but I have heard of Vallejo!

I ask because I use Citadel Colour, which is a thin paint so I can cover mistakes that I inevitably make when doing very fine detail! But it seems like you are working with some good model paint as well!

For me when working with figures I just had to leap, make mistakes, and eventually learn that despite those mistakes that eventually it doesn’t always look perfect! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:
