Scared of alcohol withdrawal

I fucked up once again and relapsed. This time it’s worse than ever. I’ve been drinking about one bottle of wine everyday for the past couple of months. I don’t know what it is but I’m terrified for my health this time around. Been sober for 1 day already.

Congratulations on your first day! I feel you. I drank a bottle of wine a day also.
Like everyone on this app. Take it one day at a time.

Did you experience DTs? I’ve been experiencing these body jolts when I’m trying to fall asleep and I’m worried about it :disappointed_relieved:

Welcome back :slightly_smiling_face:
Myself I drank wine too!! The best thing I did was put the bottle down.
If you are worried about any of your symptoms please seek medical attention straight away.
I don’t have much experience with withdrawal but I’m sure some people who do will be along to share.

Day 1 congratulations, it’s nice to have you back here.

Were they actually the DTs? Mine only happen when I’m trying to fall asleep. Other than that I feel ok

I honestly don’t know! I would get a jolt like I was falling in a dream. The er gave me fluids and Ativan

Ah ok. Did the fluids end up helping? I’ve been trying to replenish my electrolytes.

Yes they did, but it was an iv, so it was instant. I was extremely dehydrated, as the alcohol causes, that was what my body needed!

It’s called Hypnic jerks and can happen due to stress, anxiety, exhaustion, possibly related to withdrawals. Sometimes it just happens for no apparent reason at all.

Does it prevent sleep, like happens over and over or just once or twice?

I get them from time to time, more when I didn’t drink for a couple days.

Honestly, if you go 2 days and you haven’t had severe withdrawals that require medical intervention then you are probably fine, as in, you won’t die from withdrawals.

Sleep on the otherhand can be pretty rough for the first few weeks.

Stay hydrated and rest, it’ll be over before you know.

Even without alcohol I have issues sleeping tbh. I’m also very stressed out all the time due to work so yes, it could be from a lot of things. The jolts happen maybe once in a while as I’m just about to fall asleep. It’s definitely because more frequent in the past 2ish weeks. So far I haven’t experienced any mild symptoms and I hope it stays that way

I also have hypnic jerk; it is worse when you’re coming down. On the other hand, if you drank that much in 2 months, you’re doing well. I get all kinds of symptoms. Do keep drinking flúids, especially Gatorade.

I get them maybe once a month or so. Sometimes it is accompanied by the feeling of falling, or auditory hallucinations, like hearing glass break or someone yell my name. Sometimes it’s just my while body jumps, other times it starts sleep paralysis and rarely it kick starts a lucid dream. For me, seems to be directly correlated to stress and exhaustion.

I’ve been drinking mild to heavily for the past 4-5 years but these past 5ish months have been exceptionally bad. I’m currently drinking coconut water as well as some pedialyte for the electrolytes.

Ah ok. Mine is not accompanied by any other symptoms. Just seems like I get that jolt right when I’m about to drift off.

Sounds good. Mango juice even better than coconut water. I’m coming down off one of my worst benders of the last year. I wanted to warn you about another potential symptom: Exploding Head Syndrome.
Right before you drift off, you sometimes hear this “BANG!”, usually in the right ear. Don’t know what causes it. I Googled it once, and it doesn’t just happen to alcoholics.

Delirium can happen even arnd 10 days of quitting. When a person drinks for a long period of years up to 2 weeks anything can happen.
If you start to get more symptoms of withdrawal or are unsure get help straight away as by the time you would get delirium most people are unable to seek help by this point as they are not physically and mentally able to due to disentoriation.
Im not trying to scare you, seizures also are high for heavy drinking withdrawals, I am saying this from a very caring place and if your worried the slightest get medical advice.
Quitting alcohol can be serious if not done properly.
Use google and research for yourself too so you know what to expect, and when/if you need medical assistant.

Your doing the right thing checking, and quitting it’s just important to do it the right way.
It’s great your here with us, I hope you dont get too many symptoms and good on you for taking this step forward :hugs:

@Try2change No. I didn’t experience any physical side effects of not drinking. Mine were and are emotional.
Stay positive and take it ODAAT.
