So I’ve been seeing lots of articles and things that show evidence that Semaglutide kills craving. I found a weight loss who prescribes it and I’m hoping to start it next week. I’ve tried literally everything else.
Has anyone else taken this? It’s a diabetic medication and may be unpopular subject as it’s in short supply, apparently.
There is currently a clinical trial being done in North Carolina for Semaglutide being used to treat alcoholism. I’ve emailed back and forth with a doctor involved with the study. I’m not eligible to participate because I’m not in NC. I’d be happy to share the link to the study if you are in NC and interested.
My husband took Wegovy which contains Semaglutide for weight loss. He’s an alcoholic in recovery so I just asked him if it helped with urges but he was already 6 months sober when he started so he couldn’t say one way or the other. However, the first injection made him extremely sick to his stomach. Like in bed sick for 2 days. His dr warned him about getting sick but it was worse than expected. He didn’t get as sick on the 2nd injection (week later) and the sickness lessened over time. I guess he had to build up a tolerance. He has lost 170 pounds so it was definitely worth it.
I sure hope its determined that semaglutide works for alcoholism. That would be an awesome kick start for those that can’t get past the first few weeks. I’d be interested if you find out more as the study continues.
I made a post in a reddit group about this medication and got an overwhelming responses from people who drank before starting the drug and all but one has stopped drinking. Many were prescribed for weight loss. Almost seems to good to be true. I can’t wait to start taking it. I’ve heard about the nausea and i hope it’s not too bad for me. I typically deal with similar issues with a hangovers. My hope is to use it to get sober months and manage from there.
