Shandy - Falling off the wagon or not?

Hi guys!

Bit of advice please. I’m 77 days sobers which I’m happy with but as I’m a black out alcoholic and don’t believe I was ever alcohol dependent it’s probably not all that.

Over the past few months I’ve been on nights out, to weddings, meals with my Fiancé and it hasn’t really bothered me. Thing is I have my stag do coming up this weekend…i haven’t really declared to most my friends that I’ve packed up drinking and it’s going to come to a head this weekend.

The biggest issue it when people see you at a bar drinking water, soft drink etc…I’m contemplating drinking lager shandy…so my question is does this count as falling off the wagon? My rationale is that if they see me drinking pints of shandy they’ll know no difference. Obviously there is alcohol in it but as shandy is sold next to soft drinks in supermarkets is the alcohol content that nominal that it doesn’t count.

Any thoughts/ advice will be appreciated.

I would say it is, sorry you probably don’t want that answer but two shandys is one pint, one shandy is half a pint therefore a sip is a drop, what’s to say after one or two you won’t get that F it thought going on in your head and a full blown binge kicks in.

Do you really want that?

For your stag have you arranged anything which doesn’t involve drinking events? Go Karting. Paint balling etc, might be worth exploring if you don’t.

I’d have a word with your bestman or someone going that you trust to make it clear to them how you’re feeling and they’ll keep an eye out for you.

You can get through it and will feel so much better for it and it’ll make your wedding even better.

Managed to keep on the soft stuff, wasn’t easy…toughest part is dealing with people’s utter bewilderment that I wasn’t drinking but glad I stayed strong. Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

Ive been there before trying to reason with myself thinking maybe I didnt have a problem.Im a binge drinker too and Ive come to realize that once I have one drink my switch disappears, completely. Im responsible for that first drink but after that I cant control it.
I could even go months with being sober and doing all these events and then I try one drink and Im great and dont drink the rest of the day .I tell myself Im a normal drinker but suddenly im craving it and the next day or day after I say yes to one drink again and again and before I know it one day Im buying wine bottles and christmas shopping with wine in my cup having finished 2 bottles within just a few days and I realize it all started from that ONE drink I gave into.
Its not worth it.

Dont worry about what other people are drinking, you can tell them you decided you dont want to drink or even you dont wanna drink for awhile because of your health. Also though you dont really owe anyone an explanation.
