I used to be a p90x addict/ runner. Now! Just doing the best for my kiddos, trying to pick myself back up off the floor, and deep breathing!
Ooo!!! That’s super cool. I miss puzzles!
My New hobies are Working out my body, being on nofap, skeching cars, running
I recently picked chess back up after having to drop a p2w mobile strategy gacha game that was really eating up way too much time. Chess was the perfect replacement. Completely free, and I can play whenever I want. No daily login bonuses and it doesn’t demand my time while I’m at work with time sensitive events. I used to play in middle school and never had anyone to play with after moving, then just sort of forgot about it. It’s awesome what the recent TV show and streaming have done for the community.
My hobbies include watercolor painting, cross-stitch, knitting, crochet, … anything art, really. Bird watching… what else? Scrolling through TS and looking at memes and selfies, while eating ice cream and wondering why I’m still fat… um, macrame?
Writing, making up fairytales for kids, or just general writing (I just started like my millionth blog, hopefully I don’t get tired of it and deletes it after a while) spending time outdoors, gardening. Watching MLE (competitive eating, MLE stands for Major League Eating) trying new foods and sweets. Shopping (Omg how I miss in store shopping sprees with restaurant/Café/Ice cream shop visit included) scrolling around on Pinterest dreaming about the perfect life, and trying to create a magical childhood for my boys. Sometimes I get creative, and does some cross stitching too.
Omg, I wish I had that kind of patience. That’s awesome.
I love walking my dog, hiking, swimming and watching movies!
I wish I was more into my garden but can’t say it holds my attention very long.
Staying sober I hope to start reading again. It’s something I have always loved but stopped doing because drinking was more important.
M.I.A. - K A L A (2007)
Just came in yesterday, first pressing since it’s original release. Unreal sound, really might be one of the best-sounding that I own now. Very cool artwork, and also a full-size booklet with a write-up about the album. Waited a long time to have this in the collection, got the first album too.
(FYI - if you only know “Paper Planes”: heavily, heavily recommend you listen to her first two albums)
I’m trying to figure out what I like as well. I’ve started a blog that I don’t really write on, because I like to write, but apparently I don’t really like to write and being creative on demand. So I need to figure out another way to do it.
I used to like to do cross stitch, but I don’t have the calm anymore.
I like fashion, constantly re-doing my closet because yet I haven’t found the real me.
I think I like gardening but all my houseplants dies.
It’s a process, and for me it seems to be easier to make a list of things that I don’t like to do. But by trying a lot of different things I think I’ll get to the things I like to do. The things that is me, eventually.
I feel like I might have watched at least part of a set she did at a festival… But I don’t really remember. So all I know is paper planes. Will have to check out those albums!
The cactus game is slow going, but then again, I had to use a grow light for the first ~15 months with these guys. I started putting them outside about a month ago, and the changes have been swift. Grow light kept them alive, but for substantial growth and (hopefully) flowering, “ain’t nothin’ like the real thing”.
A pair of them are taking on a gorgeous purple coloring. Can’t wait to load my balcony with cacti once I move! And I can have them out year-round!

Today:
I wish that littlest one would grow. Hasn’t budged since the day I bought it, and its my favorite one of the lot. Once I move, I plan to repot them into their own separate pots. That could be the issue (the 2 larger cacti hoarding the root space, water, nutrients, etc).
Also a quick story. Nobody in my building knows my name. We exchange friendly "hello"s in passing, and will chat if prompted, but generally I keep to myself. I recently overheard 2 people outside, apparently I am known around the building as “cactus guy” since eeeeevery morning I lug the cacti out to put on the roof of my car for the sun. Then eeeeevery night I go lug them back in.
I actually find it pretty amusing. At least I didn’t get the nickname from being perceived as prickly
Nice work!
Beautiful. When I lived in Arizona I grew hundreds of Saguaro cacti from seeds. Most were given away to be planted in the desert.
Thank you!
Thanks! Unfortunately that cactus (and my others) were stolen a week or two before I left MA.
Thankfully there is some INCREDIBLE cacti and succulent specific garden centers here. I’ll have a gnarly cactus family soon enough. I have two balconies to fill with spiny friends!
In the meantime, I can enjoy the ones in the wild! There’s a pair of absolutely massive agave just outside my door.
Hello everyone. My main hobby my whole adult life has been drinking. I’ve had sober times inbetween where I’ve thought I’ll try that that will keep me off the drink.
At the moment I’m into gardening. I saved and bought a greenhouse while we were in lockdown.
I have a £1000+ camera here what I’ve never really mastered so that is something for me to focus (see what I did there) on for a rainy day or when the nights draw in.
I like to draw using coloured pencils, mainly birds I’ll post some pictures on here later.
Cooking! I love cooking and have a curry on the go at the minute.
Reading my all time favourite is Mr King i also listen to audio books when I’m working. The greenhouse wasnt planned just for plants but as a space for me to go in set the camera up in take pictures of the birds feeding then draw them. Also I plan to read in there as well.
I’ve tried scuba diving and really enjoyed that but found I wanted to go to the pub and tell people what I saw.
I have 2 Springer spaniels and I love getting out and about with those. I lose myself in a good walk.
Just writing all these down makes me want to really give being sober my all and start enjoying the things I look forward to doing after work.
Anyone can be a drunk and I know I am better than that and there is more to life than the pub.
What a great thread this is.
Thanks for reviving the thread! Feels like a lifetime ago that I started it, my life is quite different now.
It’s mad isn’t it how much there is to do and look forward to. I think it’s also good to remember (for me anyway) that it is also OK to be bored and fed up. It isn’t realistic to be entertained every minute of every day. But also that there are always other things we could be doing instead of drinking!
Look forward to seeing your drawings.
I’m also currently cooking. Made some pasta for lasagne yesterday for the first time and it was actually pretty good. Trying out some ravioli with the leftovers… Not convinced it will stay stuck together but will soon find out!
Hope your ravioli turned out well. I’ve pottered about today and enjoyed being off work and staying out of the pub.
