Sharing milestones on social media

I apologize if this has been asked a million times - I enjoy sharing my milestones on social media to show those who were either witnesses to or victims of my addiction that I’ve changed. But to also, in a way to give hope if anyone knows of someone they love are privately going through it. Is it TMI or inspiring?

I’m proud of my milestones and I share them. Not so much now that I got a lot of time under my belt. But I’m proud of every day I’m clean and sober. I’ve told a few people irl too and they said they are sober too!! Even my dentist. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: said he’s got 10 years. I think it inspires all and you never know who wants to join in and share.

I have not found that sharing my sobriety outside of this app has really resulted in anything positive. Sharing my sobriety on Facebook or LinkedIn would cause it to be used against me or invoke the world’s stigma to addiction.

Unless all of your social media connections will be truly supportive of your sobriety in a way that builds you up (like this app does) I have not found that the rest of the world really gives a shit or will stereotype me as ‘One of those addicts’ etc.

I think it’s fine to share, if someone doesn’t like it they either don’t understand addiction or they are an addict themselves but they just aren’t ready.

The only thing I’d suggest is like if you share milestones, just make sure it’s set to friends-only viewing for the sake of a future employer or your current employer not finding out about your addiction. At least in the tech industry, there is a lot of stigma against addiction since most of us are very nerdy and haven’t really done drugs like that, but that’s just my opinion
