Just a little sunset over Slad in Gloucestershire UK where we’re staying for a couple of days.
Slad was the home of author Laurie Lee who wrote the 6 million selling Cider with Rosie (called Edge of Day in the US). It’s about being a child growing up in rural England at the time of WW1.
I had a sandwich and chips in the pub he used to regularly frequent. Pubs are a nice place to be when you don’t want alcohol. A centre of community. We met some older ladies who talked about the photos over the bar of the local people who are no longer with us, as well as Laurie Lee. It was really nice to have a feel for the places in the book that I read at school in 1981. I’m going to listen to the audiobook. It’s a mostly gentle tale and I rather like and need that these days.
This morning was short but sweet. My battery was low and in a quick change the skies went grey and the magic was over.
