Thought it would be nice to have a thread again to show our holiday spirit. So if you’d like to show your Christmas tree, decorations, favourite ornaments, holiday stuff/accessories etc, please do!
I’ll start the first post:
My little guy & I put our tree up yesterday. He was SO excited, and his excitement really lifts me. Christmas can be a hard time, especially after having lost both my parents (losing dad most recently two years ago), and with COVID restrictions etc.
This will be my third Christmas since joining Talking Sober, and while I haven’t managed three consecutive years sober, this will be my third Christmas holidays/winter season sober
It’s my favourite time if the year!
Still to early for me, but I love the thread!
Being in the desert now, I’ve realized it’s going to be extra important for me to decorate in order to get into the spirit. Like – Halloween didn’t feel like Halloween in the least. Hard when it’s 90 degrees and you’re surrounded by palm trees, and you’re used to the idyllic New England Halloween feel.
I’m currently on the hunt for one of those old ceramic light-up Christmas trees that you’d see in the 80s, had one growing up and then for a little bit when I first moved out on my own (not sure what happened to it, may have returned it to my Mom). The things are freaking expensive when you can find them!! As in $90+ at every antique store I’ve seen them in.
Yesterday i saw one for $40, but the tree was white with yellow and orange lights - rather than the typical green with multicolors. That steered me away, but the more I think about it - the more I think it was kinda cool and I may be going back to get it today before it’s scooped up.
My mum used to do ceramics. After mum died, dad threw so much stuff out but I insisted he keep the ceramics. When he died, I managed to get some stuff shipped here (old vinyl records, a rocking chair, China plates, dad’s military memorabilia, and some of mum’s Christmas ceramics from late 70s/early 80s). I’m hoping the tree is in there, so I’ll post it if I have it! I love it. I’d spend hours playing with the bulbs & rearranging the colours as a kid lol
Honestly- I kinda wanna put mine up now! I’ve always been a wait till Dec 1st person BUT that’s not to far away and all the pretty makes me smile. I’m gonna! I’ll post a picture later
What a wonderful thread
I will hop in late, we decorate our christmas tree traditionally on 22./23. december and clear it away short after jannuary 6th.
oh, I love christmas and all the sparkling
I saw some yesterday at Target! This one is for sale through them online and has great reviews. If you want a smaller, less expensive one, this same company has a 9.5” tall one for only $23.
Edit: Of course, if you’re looking for an old one…
Here’s some of mum’s ceramics. I see she carved her initials and the year (‘80) on the bottom. The star broke off and chipped it a bit on the top during shipping but I’ll find a new star. I’m going to get some white cotton to look like snow to put underneath these, and the other ceramics I’m currently unpacking to mimic our tacky decorating skills growing up
I haven’t seen these in years. Emotional unpacking them for sure.
Don’t mind the old school clock radio on the windowsill… that’s for my dog to have tunes when I’m not home
That one on the left is the exact one I had!
Edit: well, very similar. Mine wasn’t made by your Mum!
I needed this laugh!
But are you serious?!
Sometimes the unanswered question is the real answer you need.
Surprised you managed to get it through the door
So Ms. Monkey loves Christmas like Buddy the elf…so, I got her a small tree for gnomes
A tree for Rosie, (not decorated yet)
