Skin care advice please

Just wondering if anyone was getting bad skin since quitting?? Am getting a couple of spots on my cheeks never had them before.
Do you think it’s a the toxins leaving my body, if so how long will it last?? Or is it my body just balancing the chemicals
Any advice well received please

It’s hormones, happened to me too. Probably the body evening out. I use tea tree oil for spot treatments and hemp oil as my moisturizer.

I think that is exactly it!! Good observation.

Perhaps using gentle cleanser and moisturizer without perfumes etc. I use an amazing product called Carina Organics…not sure they are available where you are.

Also, I’ve read a lot that eliminating dairy can help clear skin.

Thank you, much appreciated! Ive been drinking alot more water but will cut out the dairy products I think.

Apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball. Me and my teenager use it for our acne. Works incredible!

Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem.

Definitely dairy as @VSue said, or anything that can be pumped up with hormones for that matter. I also consume the juice of 1 lemon per day (with teas, water, etc). The vitamin C is great for your immune system and skin

Oh man my skin went INSANE after quitting. In fact I never had many skin issues before quitting. I’m at day 52 and just now is it really starting to heal. I started on a supplement to balance hormones and clear hormonal acne (among other positive things), estrosmart by lorna vanderhaeghe. (I also started some probiotics, and some digestive enzymes for the time being but I’ll go back off of those – anyway your skin is an extension of your digestive system!). Be sure to have some sort of stress relief and exercise moderately if u feel up to it. For skincare I cleanse my face with raw honey (the kind with the pollen and royal jelly left in), then use thayers toner with rose and aloe Vera, and then a skin serum handmade by bfree organics (the best skincare line to ever exist I would fight for it). She also makes a fantastic exfoliating blemish polish I use 1 to 2 times a week interchangeably with my neutrogena skin rejuvenator.

Since we’re on the topic here, I have a bit of ruddiness in my cheeks that I can’t seem to completely get rid of (or at least yet). Thanks alcohol! Anyone else experience this and have any tips?

I used to get acne before i started having problems with alcohol. since i stopped drinking 9 days ago ive noticed im getting more acne. Im at an age where i dont really care now. they are only small zits for now and others go before i get more.

I suggest you go in for a facial. Your esthetician will give you a skin analysis and ask about your lifestyle and other products you use. It’s very difficult to properly advise you without seeing your skin. But your body is undergoing a lot of changes after quitting drinking and it does take a while for all of the toxins to be fully removed and your hormones to calm down. Sometimes they offer a skin analysis for free! I recommend finding someone trained with Dermalogica products as they are developed at the International Dermal Institute specifically for the health of your skin. Your esthetician will be able to better advise you and will give you a personalized skin care plan. I’m a esthetician (skin care specialist) but I can’t offer a whole lot digitally.

Some basic advice:
*Make sure you are using a cleanser that is meant for your face - not soap. Morning and night.
*Use a gentle exfoliate once a week (no more than 3 times a week)
*Hydrate that new skin! Use a moisturizer every day (yes even if your skin is oily. You just have to find the right moisturizer)
*Hydrate yourself! Drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods
*Use spf to prevent sun damage. Some moisturizers already have spf in them.

Keep in mind that sometimes your skin will get worse before getting better. I don’t know how far into sobriety you are but my skin is just starting to calm down and I’m nearing 60 days.

I RELATE!! 57 days in and my skin is terrible! I was lucky as a teen and didn’t suffer spots but my face has erupted…really hope it settles down soon. Some good tips on the thread :+1:

I used to be on something called duac, which is clyndamycin and benzoyl peroxide. did wonders for me. but when i started drinking my skin cleared up. now ive stopped drinking if the acne comes back in going to the docs to ask for it back.

I got a No.7 home glycolic peel kit from boots and it’s really helped my skin. It’s gentle and you get 8 peels in little vials to do over 4 weeks, a neutralising liquid to remove it, and an aftercare lotion. It doesn’t leave your skin red either

That’s awesome! Congrats!! Yeah, that’s a great skin product. Today is day 55 for me and on Monday I’ve just started my new diet exercise regime. Baby steps. My sugar cravings have most definitely subsided!

It’s amazing to feel like I am finally getting somewhere, got a facial booked for Tuesday. Sounds weird but feel like I need to cleanse my entire body in a hope of starting a fresh!! Back to a time before alcohol!!
Just had a birthday so cake and chocolate everywhere it’s getting less but sugar cravings still raging!! But don’t think anyone died of too much chocolate whereas alcohol…
