Sober Houses/Sober Living

The area that I live in has multiple treatment facilities. I’m very active in the local AA scene and I have found that the newcomers all say how great the sober houses are in this area compared to other places they have attempted to get sober. I’m curious what they say about your sober living environment, wherever that may be. I have never lived in a sober house other than the month long PHP program I completed. We were not allowed to leave or work, so it’s very different than a sober house. I understand most houses in the area will ask for random substance testing. Is this normal or strict ? Your input would be great. Thank you :folded_hands: :flexed_biceps::+1:

My program was offered post medical detox. I was transferred to a beautiful house and little campus. We had access to meds that were dispensed at a med window 3x’s per day. For me, it was just comfort meds to help sleep etc.. others received suboxone, adderall and things like that. The program was entirely voluntary but the rules were enforced. Attend all classes 7 days per week, take meds as prescribed, no visitors, and no leaving the grounds during free time. This was a 28 day program that many people would use the outreach counselors to set them up with a bed in a sober house after program completion. We were allowed cell phones from 3:30-5pm daily after 8 days probation. I hope this helps :+1:

I can chime in on the this one. PHP program is partial hospital. You can work and still live. You just have to be in the meeting 6 hours a day. I’m starting a PHP program on Monday actually!

I may be confused with my acronyms… that sounds like IOP. Intensive Outpatient Program. I hope I’m not hungry, angry, lonely and tired. I should H.A.L.T now :winking_face_with_tongue:
I was told I completed PHP and received a graduate certificate. They might differ depending on the company offering these programs. I’m not entirely sure. I’m grateful I said “yes” and I go back twice monthly to speak and it helps me stay sober :folded_hands:
