With all the negativity going on in the world (particularly my neck of it) I am really looking forward to this year’s Olympics! I think friendly, sports competition can be a fun distraction.
I am def Team USA.
Curling, Skiing (downhill) and bobsled are always my favs to watch.
This thread can be for us all to have some fun banter, which is great on an international forum.
In the way of medals it’s speedskating all the way for the Dutchies. Of course. Both shorttrack and on the oval 400m track. There’s more competition from other countries than ‘usual’ though. Team USA has Jordan Stolz who could do something close, but not quite, to what Eric Heiden did in 1980 in Lake Placid (Yes I’m old). The Dutch women especially are expected to score big this time.
Personally I also like hockey, and both alpine and cross country skiing. It’s a pity that alpine ski legend Marcel Hirscher got injured badly some months ago, so he won’t be able to compete for The Netherlands this time around, which is the country of his mother. He won golds for Austria in the past.
@Englishd Been in Cortina on my bicycle in the 90’s. Most beautiful mountains I ever saw in my life. Must be so pretty up there. Edit: The downhill is on the Stelvio, near Bormio. Not bad either. Very spread out games.
Just ordered peacock streaming so I can watch the Olympics. I love watching top athletes at their best! Of course I like it when USA performs great but, I really appreciate athletes from every country.
I thought I had only Eurosport to watch Olympics today -so was condemned to figure skating now- but now I see I can watch different stuff with HBO too. So watching together with you guys . I do miss my Luna with me on the couch.
