heading to my buddies surprise bday party. I’m scared, I’m nervous, I haven’t seen any of these friends in 8 months. I’m in a funk, but I need to face this fear.

Hubby has been drinking for a few hours now. Having a fun new sparkling water has been getting me through EVERY DAY dealing with the temptation.

… You got this Mike! Enjoy the show and you will be reminded and refreshed that you are in control and of sound mind. Rooting for you!

Mike, you’ve got a great foundation of sobriety under your belt and you’ve consistently done the “next right thing”. Sorry to be reading that you’ve been feeling low lately, but being around people/friends (safely, of course) might be just what the doctor ordered.

You are strong in your sobriety. Just remember that your choice to not drink is for you. Anyone who questions it or tries to undermine it is not a true friend. That probably won’t even be an issue, though. Most of the time people don’t give a damn what you’re drinking, as it should be. I have no doubt that you will go to the party, you will have a good time, and you will stand firm in not drinking. Also, keep in mind that you have a choice to leave whenever you want, for any reason. If I find myself at a get together where there is drinking, I generally see myself out once people start getting a bit sloppy…not due to temptation, but rather because being sober is just a different wavelength and drunk people are kind of annoying sometimes. My socialization threshold is generally lower than most, too. People appreciate you putting in an appearance regardless.

Have a good time, and take care.

Thanks everyone. It went well, I was a tid awkward at first. Took me a minute to talk and open up. Guys tried to hand me the pipe a couple times, everyone was drinking. But other then that no body pushed anything on me. And it all went well, I stayed for about 2 half hours and called it good from there. It was nice to see everyone. Fear for the day faced :ballot_box_with_check:. Much love, and thank you @TMAC for the awesome words and advice

And next time it will go easier Mike.
Remember you didn’t get straight on a bike and rode a downhill course. Or suddenly stood and walked.
These things had to be learnt. As is everything in life. Practice makes perfect
You have took the first step.
Go at your own pace
