Nice work!!! Hopefully you did something nice for yourself today
Congratulations on your 500 days Randa.
Yay!, one week. That’s a huge great big start. Very proud of you Julia. Just keep on ODAAT. That’s all we got to do.
I love a good halibut. I didn’t know they were so big and ugly. What does one of those suckers weigh? Is he an average sized one?
Ya, no more trouble for you
I had a nice Branzino tonight.
567 days sober! Great weekend fishing for the elusive Tiger Muskie with my son. No tigers this weekend, but we’ve created a new obsession and more time with my son!!
This one is smallish, but the smaller ones are the best eating. They get huge! The biggest one I have ever seen was 180 pounds on long line gear. The biggest one I have caught on a jig is 70 pounds. This one was 20 to 25.
In Alaska 300-400 pounders are caught. Big ones are nicknamed barn doors because its like reeling up a barn door.
They are ambush hunters. They like sandy bottoms. They cover themselves with sand/silt and ambush their food as it swims by. both their eyes are on one side of their face. their bottom is white, with the camoflauge coloring on top. They have gills on both sides like a normal fish, but swim flat. Weird fish!
Island Rock in the background. It gets deep fast from that rock 90 feet off the rock. Theres a small rocky shelf that ling cod and other bottomfish hang out on, then it drops straight down to 175 feet with a sandy bottom where I found him.
River deltas are hot spots for halibut. When the boss gets back from vacation in a couple of weeks our first halibut opener starts. We are allowed 3500 pounds. Our gear is baited and waiting in the freezer.
Imagine being a small fish, swimming along the bottom and seeing those eyes. Its ruthless down there.
I tried to catch the elusive Tiger Muskie while I was there last summer. No luck! Quality time and awesome memories! You guys will get em!
We bought all the gear, not cheap, so no excuses now! I will definitely let you know if we ever get one!!
Todays was one of those days where just getting dressed was a pisstake!
But for once i appreciated my capability, i let the tears just run down my face. I allowed my manager to see my internal struggle and called her a wonderful array of words.
Today i was that tired i couldn’t mask, i couldn’t not tic.
And i am reminded that there are some beautiful people in this world.
Today i’m happy because i was unapologetically me.
