Sober Time 4.4 - Major Update & Health Timeline

Hi community!

I’m excited to announce an update I’ve been working on for the last few months. This is a major update and brings a new feature that is going to add a lot of substance and guidance to Sober Time.

Health Timeline
This is a brand new feature that will show you a sorted timeline with estimated start and end dates of changes your mind and body goes through as you recover from substances. Every single change is backed by research. It will help you better understand what’s happening to you, but can also tell you what to expect in the coming days.

Disclaimer: These are general estimates based on typical health responses and published research, not medical advice, treatment or diagnosis. Always consult your doctor with any medical concerns.

Here’s how the page looks once set up:

You’ll also see a health strip with highlights on your home page:

In the example I have Alcohol and Smoking set up. Every change is sorted into Active, Stabilizing, Coming up and Settled. You can collapse the sections or filter by substance. Tapping on a change will open up the detail view where you can read more about it and also find the link to the published research.

Setup
Up until this update, all Sober Time’s trackers were generic. You can type in any name for it (you still can, it’s just cosmetic), and Sober Time starts tracking. But it had no way of knowing what it was tracking. With the new feature, you’ll now be able to link each of your trackers to a specific substance. Premium users can also fill out a questionairre to tailor the timeline further. As with the rest of Sober Time, this stays private and is not shared with anyone. Once your tracker is linked to a substance, Sober Time will use your time and perform calculations to create your timeline.

You’ll be asked to link your trackers to substances the first time you open the Health Timeline page. Pick the one that best represents it. You can also set it to “Not linked” which will disable the Health Timeline feature for that tracker.

Sober Time’s current supported substances are ones that are the most common:
Alcohol, Nictone (Cigarettes, vapes, pouches), Cannabis, Prescription opiods, Heroin, Fentanyl, Meth, Cocaine, Crack, Prescription stimulants, Benzos and caffeine. More can be added in the future if they are needed, but I think this is a good starting point.

New-user setup is now easier too
When new users first install Sober Time, they will now be presented with pre-made templates to choose from that they can use to easily add the trackers they’re interested in. These will automatically be linked to substances. You can still add a generic tracker, or something that’s not yet supported, by tapping the + Other button.

Availability
This is a major update, so to play it safe I’ve opted for a staged roll-out. It is currently available to 10% of users on Google Play. I’ll monitor it and will make it available to all users (Google Play and App Store Connect).

From me
This is an update I’ve been working on for months. And I’ve been thinking about it and planning it in my head long before that. A lot of work went into it. I’m excited to share it with our community, I think it will be a valuable resource and I hope that you like it.

Thank you for being part of Sober Time and Talking Sober.

That’s such a cool and thoughtful update! Especially the health timeline will be super encouraging to new members. It’ll make it much easier to sit through some cravings, I imagine. Can’t wait to see all the new features.

Believe it is a soft roll out and only a select few apps are seeing the changes for now. Hopefully we will all have them shortly. I did not see a time line on the above post but usually can take a few weeks for all apps to come on board.

I should have specified a timeline. This will be fully available to everyone on all platforms in about a week, unless something goes wrong.
