So in a recent update to Sober Time I made it so that you can’t pick a future date as your clean date. It didn’t make sense to me to track your addiction starting from a date that has not happened yet.
I then saw this 1 star review:
“Cannot choose a future date, the new update has screwed that up. Please fix it.”
So it looks like there is some use for it, but I can’t think of a reason why. Does anyone on here perhaps know or use it in such a manner?
I’ve always had to attach personal significance to the date I decided to stop and most of them were future. We can’t choose the date of our birth or even our death, but being able to choose the date of our rebirth in sobriety is a deeply personal and meaningful part of recovery for some of us. And for those of us mellow dramatic emo types, a future date makes just as much sense as the present.
There are as many ways to cope with and treat addiction as there are addicts, the more room for individual preference the better. Addiction very seldom makes sense anyway, so personal recovery no matter how senseless, as long as it doesn’t harm I say to each his own.
I chose the first of the year. It was my resolution to FINALLY quit for good. If I mess up now I feel like I blew the whole year because right now I can say that I have been sober for all of 2017. There are some of us who have/had a specific date in mind to truly make the change. When you fully commit it is a life altering decision. So yea, I can see how someone would want a reminder of the date they plan to start this journey.
Could be that there are some big events coming up that the person knows they won’t be able to stay sober for. A wedding for instance. And they plan to start after.
I’ve used it for relapses. Basically I hit reset while having s drink but felt that it wasn’t right since I was still drinking or even drunk. So I would add several hours with the resolve that it would start when I was sober again.
It’s not really the intended way of using Sober Time, but I guess if it works for some people there’s no harm to it. I’ll enable it again in the next update.
