Sober Vacation

I’m going on my 48th day sober today. I feel really lucky, because it’s almost seemed too easy for me to get to this point. Ever since my ‘final straw’ with alcohol, I have been on this journey and haven’t looked back.

I’ve gotten through the holidays, which was hard. But, I did it. Now my next test is going on Vacation!!

I am leaving for Maui tomorrow. It’s gone across my mind a few times the last couple weeks about drinking. I keep feeling like I’ve gotten this far, what’s wrong with enjoying a couple maitais on the beach if I jump right back on the sober train when I get home? Deep down I know that even if I am able to stick to a couple drinks, it’s not good for me. But the next 7 days will be a struggle.

I will keep checking in on this app. Every time I see my days sober count on here I can’t help but feel proud. I feel guilty that this is my biggest struggle at the moment, when I see others who are having really hard times…

I just needed to get that out. Writing my thoughts out on here always seem to help me. Thanks for listening xx

It would be hard for me too, never had a sober holiday in my adult life. But, for everything is a first time. Maybe focus on what you can do sober, like hiking, watch the sunrise (sober. lol). Who are you going with? You can tell them you quit, so they wont tempt you either. Focus on the good, instead on not having alcohol.

Congratulations on your 48 days! That is pretty fantastic! Vacations can be a hurdle, but making sober memories is pretty cool. Try some new things…yoga on the beach, hikes, SUP, snorkeling, no shortage of great adventures in Maui. I find talking with the bartenders and letting them know I don’t drink alcohol helps a lot. They can make scrumptious refreshing drinks for you. I love mango smoothies. Hawaii has a lot of fresh juices to try!

Have fun!!

I went to Florida over Christmas, so I know what you’re feeling. I had to do all of my usual routines without alcohol. That meant not drinking at the airport and not drinking on the plane. These were huge triggers for me, but I made it without drinking. Just remember the reasons you made for quitting. All I can say is that I didn’t miss a thing by not drinking. In fact, it was better, I actually remembered where we went and what we did. Alcohol isn’t necessary and you won’t miss it.

I don’t know about you but drinking ends up making me tired and dull, especially in the sun. Keep thinking of how much energy you’ll have for adventure if you don’t drink alcohol. Or go for some super fancy juice/energy drinks. You’re not the only person who doesn’t drink on vacation, right? Have fun!!!

There is no vacation from sobriety. That’s like a vacation from breathing. Drinking for me is slow suffocation. It chokes my spirit.

What’s funny is even when I was drinking, I pretty much stayed sober on vacation. Didn’t want to check out or ruin it. Looking forward to the one I’m planning to take to celebrate 1 year sober. Funding it with the money I don’t spend on alcohol. I’ll have about $5G saved.

The best vacations are the ones in which the only things that follow you home are cheap souvenirs and good memories.

My vacation is in March on a cruise, I keep thinking about how I’m going to avoid drinking as well.

I’m planning a trip to California and Vegas for my birthday at the end of February. Never been to either place and have always wanted to my whole life. I’m meeting friends in both places and I’m worried about not drinking too. I know it will be the biggest challenge I’ve faced yet. I’m about five days from a month sober.
