Not sure if this could be helpful to some here, but there are secular online groups that I like. There’s a site with a ton (aasecular.org). Groups aren’t for everyone, but if you’re interested, it’s a great resource.

Im currently listening to the BBC drama collection of 4 of Terry’s works
MORT
Wyrd sisters
Guards! Guards!
Eric.
I have been laughing all day long.
My best friend passed away 10 years ago and gave me the whole collection of his TP books and discworld art work. When his daughter had her first child I returned the collection knowing it was the right thing to do and hoping to create another avid reader.
It looks like i will have to buy more credits on audible.

This is a powerful image that reminds me not to allow religious, spiritual and cultural conditioning to define me.
I exist in this moment only.
Sober mind you :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

We are love, personified :mending_heart:

Hello,
Day 37.
Happy to be here and happy using the science as a foundation for not drinking anymore.
Once I understood that alcohol is a poison and is deadly then my decision was made for me by me to stop.
Now I am a happy non drinker.
Thanks to months of reading everything I could about alcohol when I wasnt reading I was listening to audiobooks.
I dowloaded drinkaware which is an app that tracks your daily drinking habbits. This gave me an insight into the amount I drank each week.
I had a check up at the doctors and for once I told them the truth about how much I drank each day. I was drinking my reccomended weekly limit and more daily. He could not believe that I was still working and functioning.
I read about diseases related to alcohol.
I visited a hospital ward with patients wired up to machines all with alcohol related diseases.
I did try a couple of on line S.M.A.R.T meetings which were good in making me realise that I am not alone. I wanted to attend one in peroson but there were non in my area. There is a weekly AA meeting right here in town in a church.
After all the reading I did, I wanted to be and I think deserve to be a happy non drinker without having to go to weekly meetings, completing any amount of steps or relying on a higher power. I wanted to take control and be happy steering my own ship.
I am happy to say I do not believe in any gods and never have done.
I am happy to be a non drinker.
I am happy that I made the decision to stop
This approach works for me.

Thanks for this thoughtful post. This is exactly the type of personal share that this thread was intended to provide space for. I can relate to much of what you’ve described. Can I ask if you have felt any void upon quitting that you’ve filled with something else? Do you find more time and joy in other activities, whether new ones or getting back to prior hobbies? (Just curious!)

This resonated for me completely. :clap:t3:

For me, not drinking means getting back to living, and working toward a feeling of thriving rather than just existing. I had a recent slip and it’s made me revisit a lot of what you talked about. My situation is more related to losing sight of my coping tools around depression, anxiety annd despair about world events.

Anyway, thanks again for the poignant and thoughtful post. I’m glad you’ve found your way. Through some thorough evaluation and self reflection, by the way.

Many who believe in God would answer yes, well assuredly, to this statement.

Yes! Well said, @RosaCanDo . That’s exactly how I feel.
