Sober without god. An atheist / agnostic / humanist thread. Please be respectful!

Dunno man, for someone with no interest in ‘sanctimonious poop’ posted on here, you do seem to have plenty of opinions on it. The way I see it, the forum is full of religious and spiritual posts. I don’t think a week goes by without a member opening up a new thread quoting the bible and being pretty… assertive in their belief. And that’s fine. I scroll past it. I don’t call it sanctimonious poop, I don’t call it out. I can think of one member who left the board altogether because they found these types of posts triggering their religious trauma. Which is a thing. Plenty of members experienced abuse from parents/partners/community members who used God as an excuse for their actions. Some people on here are still healing from that. For some, religious trauma served as a catalyst for their addiction.

Things aren’t exactly black and white here.

This is the one singular thread in this community where us non-believers are free to not believe and even express our reasons for not believing. You call it sanctimonious poop, I call it a nice change from the rest of the forum where religion/spirituality is the norm.

If you have no time for it, maybe you could try not to spend any time on it?

Conservatively, there are over 3000 gods which peoples of the world worship. Most will worship one God and believe it the one true God. They do not believe in the other ~2999 gods.
So most of us are non-believers, with atheists not believing in only one more god than true believers.
You could make a case that collectively not believing in ~3000 gods unites us more than belief in a single god.

To be clear Amy, I don’t believe in God. Period. You have several points, some good.

But the idea of breaking free of this forum is good food for thought. Thx for that.

You are as welcome here as all of us are. I hope you don’t leave based on any person’s words. I am certain that wasn’t Amy’s intent. If you choose for yourself that’s another thing. I have taken breaks. It can be healthy.

It was absolutely not my intent. I was missing some context with my post and it came out a bit more defensive than it should of been. For that, I apologise. @Deadman is very much welcome here as everyone else. We all belong here.

Hi, I’m not blowing things up, just talking out loud.

Learning lesson for me. Stuff to reflect on. But all is good.

Thx for your post.

I get that. I’ve tried therapy quite a few times, but it’s always done me more harm than good. I’ve literally never found anyone who does more than simply ask questions. I find it infuriating.

I’ve been snooping around this thread before, but didn’t catch up on it for maybe a year or so. Tonight I did and got some very interesting insights and stuff to think about. I like

My aunt (who passed a little over a year ago) used to love puzzles. She also did brilliant needlework and crochet (she would have loved the knitting / needlework thread here on TS )
