Sobriety/How to Stop

why is it so hard to stop drinking? what is this chokehold it has on me? any task i see more bearable if I drink. want to do chores? drink. watch a new show? drink. had a bad day at work? drink. what can I do to not automatically think and turn to alcohol. I’m sick of being in this endless cycle but cannot physically bring myself to stop.

That’s addiction for you, it doesn’t make sense.

Alcohol is an effective mood enhancer, but at a great cost, long longer we use, the worse it gets.

Something to think about, try to Change your Relationship with Alcohol

Change your perception, view it as what it takes away, not what it adds. The more you view it like that, rhe easier it gets to not want it.

Yeah, it’s hard when it feels normal. If a person can get away, physically or just mentally, for a while, with help for the driving factors, anyone can quit. Quite naturally, too. A program like AA can help, with support from people who get it.

Yep been there, i used to cry sometimes on a morning because i felt so trapped, trapped in the endless cycle of drinking, i know exactly how you feel, you are not alone, there is hope and there is help here, for me this place was the game changer…non judgemental people to talk to that really understand what its like for people like us, you cant do it alone and thats what makes the difference friend xx

It’s familiar to you. To quote the AA literature, our alcoholic life seemed the only normal one Your mind will keep telling you that a drink is needed to do anything, but in reality that’s not true. Sometimes in the beginning it’s helpful for people to be entirely away from alcohol until they get their foundation. At a certain point though you can be around it and it doesn’t bother you. Takes work, but recovery is possible. Check out an AA meeting or something similar

I feel this on the same exact level. I’m going onto day 6 no alcohol and I started to feel those same feelings you just explained! After work I would always stop by the gas station on my way home buy two drinks, drink one on the ride to my hometown then once I got into town I’d tell myself well since I polished one off on the ride I should buy 2 more so I’m good for the night! I hated that so much but did it for so long without anyone knowing! We just gotta try and kick those thoughts out and replace them with better thoughts and habits! Just this week I’ve learned that Liquid death has been my craving kicker also another motivator is how much I’ve saved this week without alcohol! I wish you the best and hope you can break the cycle I’m hoping I can break that same cycle and do better for myself and the ones around me! You got this!!
