Just as addiction gets progressively worse, sobriety can become progressively better. Because we often focus our experience on stopping drinking, it’s usually in the avoidance or negatively charged feelings of losing or giving up something.
If we stay with sobriety, we can discover new or forgotten ways of dealing with feelings, situations, other people, etc.
We do not need to get stuck in the I can’t drink stage. In fact, we may often relapse if we do. There is so much more to sobriety than that.
