I’m trying to be on detox for social media, I’m 23 and I found myself comparing my life and “success” with my friend’s life… I just deleted “X” a few minutes ago, no more Facebook, instagram or any. In my country is very usual WhatsApp but it’s more like texting. Anyways, social media is really additive to me and being off it’s kinda hard but I think that will be the best. I hope to being more time on this app
.
I did that. I felt so good
I used the principles of sober living to stay away from digital living. I only get on a few things
This app, banking and email. Otherwise, it’s all turned off
I don’t have social media anymore either i deleted everything last year
I have so much more time and my mental health has improved incredibly
I think I’ll have more time but for me at this point is like starting detox again
Which one is the best principle to follow?
Deleting social media was very important in the begginning for my recovery. So much negative, so much artificialness. I occasionally redownload to talk to people or commect with people i meet, but i try to only do it on computer.
Thank you for your experience
Yes, I’m 8 months so far and it’s kinda overwhelming
I think this is a wonderful idea Alejandra! I’m happy to hear this from someone your age bc I feel that that’s all the younger crowd does nowadays (God, that makes me sound old ). I worry sometimes that it will negatively affect my daughter in the future. Comparing yourself to others definitely takes an unnecessary toll on your confidence (I’ve been there). I’m grateful I never had an interest in social media. MySpace launched when I was in highschool and right from the start I knew it wasn’t for me. It all seemed fake then, and as time goes on, it just keeps proving that point.
Congrats on your 8 months as well It’s good to figure out what doesn’t serve you in your sober life. Being fully present with others (ie: not checking your phone for every notification) will greatly improve your real life connections. I think spending more time on here instead is a good place to start. It won’t feel like you’ve lost everything at once. Then maybe try and find new (or old) hobbies to fill your time. All the best in your new journey
Good for you! I made the same choice some years ago.
Social media apps are designed to be as addictive as gambling apps and as an addict I decided I didn’t need that in my life
Thanks for your words, make me feel like I’m not like “exaggerating” 🫶🏻🫶🏻
That’s how I felt, like an addiction
I deleted facebook 7 years ago.
Twitter last year.
Trying to get rid of instagram now and use the whatsapp only to talk to REALLY important thing.
Smartphones and social media are evil underrared addictions imho
