Starting a new chapter of sobriety

Hi folks, I just downloaded this app after being admitted to a psychiatric ward where I finally admitted I have an alcohol problem. I denied it for so long because I have gone stretches of a week or two without drinking but when I do drink I can rarely control it and usually it gets ugly, especially when it comes to my mental health. Plus I’m not supposed to drink on my ADHD medication anyways so it’s time to put my health needs before my desire to drink.

I’m looking forward to seeing who I can be and how I can make myself proud while committing to sobriety.

Sending strength & encouragement to all of you.

Hi Julie! Welcome to Talking Sober and to your sobriety! You’ve made an excellent choice to choose your health (mental, physical, financial, social…) over drinking. The desire to drink will disappear when you work your sobriety, when you replace drinking with healthy coping mechanism for the stuff life throws at you. This place can be a great help in finding these coping mechanisms and can be a good one in itself too. It sure has been, and still is for me.

So welcome again, happy to have you aboard, and hope to see more from you, sharing, supporting and being supported. You’re not alone. Wishing you all success with your stay at the psych ward and thereafter. Hoping this is the start of a much better life for you.

Hi Julie, welcome to Talking Sober! Fellow ADHDer here (there are many of us here on TS). You are not alone. The recovery journey is deep, rewarding, challenging, and 100% worth it. Take it one day at a time and keep in touch, keep checking in, keep stepping outside of your head to touch base with other people in recovery - that will help keep you grounded.

You can do it.

Proud of you for being here. I’m also going to be looking forward to seeing who you can become after this post.
I used to be a ruthless dude with no care for life. Getting sober has and continues to change my life in amazing ways I haven’t felt since I was a kid. This app and the folks here are a solid foundation of care and help.
