I had just shy of 6 months sobriety when I had my first relapse last week. I flew from uni to where I was meeting my family for Thanksgiving but got there very late the night before everyone else due to my weird flight times. I was going through the cupboards trying to find a snack when I came across the alcohol cabinet I didn’t know existed. I ignored it at first, but when the temptation got to me, I tried to call my sponsor, my parents, anyone, but my grandmas house was out in the middle of nowhere and I had absolutely no signal. I was all alone with unlimited access to alcohol, I was very depressed, and I couldn’t contact my support. A few sips led to a week of drinking every night, up until last night. But I’m done. I dumped out everything I had, I’m going back to AA tomorrow and starting the program over, and I’m going to do better this time .im extremely discouraged, but I’m also leaps and bounds from where I was seventh months ago. I’m not giving up. 12/09/2024
Welcome back. This lapse does not erase all the progress you have made. The fact that you recognized it and are back on track shows your strength and determination. Recovery is a journey, not a straight line. Be kind to yourself. You have what it takes to keep moving forward
Glad you aren’t giving up and are back here.
I’m sorry about the relapse, but you know what to do
Maybe stick around here? This place can be a huge part of your recovery, I know it’s a huge part of mine.
Don’t be discouraged. All you did was remind yourself that that substance is not for you. Let it strengthen your resolve to carry on in your sobriety. One day at a time.
Well done for coming here and sharing.
Welcome back Vann
So sorry to hear about your relapse and the circumstances. Glad you are back on track and working the recovery. Hopefully you will have a way to keep support of some kind always by you. I know how the addict mind can play it’s tricks especially when we find ourselves alone and without support. This place is active 247 and someone is always here.
back on the horse get a sponsor and get on the program get phone numbers lift the phone before the drink wish you well
