Still been drinking time to stop for good

So past few months a week or two off then a binge. Can’t seem to brake the cycle. But I really want to stop. It’s expensive, it’s bad for my health and relationships and generally bad for me. I use boredom as an excuse, I use stress as an excuse, I use my lifestyle as an excuse. That’s what I need to change. My lifestyle is all about working to go out on the piss. I need to change this and I will. I do have asperations and things I want to achieve. I can only achieve through sobriety.

Welcome! This community is great, it has really helped me and I hope it can do the same for you.

Have you thought about what your plan is the next time you try to give yourself an excuse to drink? I can understand where you’re coming from, the addict’s mind is a cunning one and will wheel-and-deal to find any way to justify going back to drinking/using. I have found that being prepared is very helpful in maintaining sobriety early on. How will you combat these thoughts when they come around? Commit to not drinking, and stick to it…no excuses.

Additionally, I would recommend seeking out interests that don’t involve drinking. For me, it was adopting a strict fitness regimen. Getting involved with something like that would actually address most of what you listed in your quote I included (it eliminates boredom, it reduces/alleviates stress. Also, it is great for your health, for your relationships/you in general). Drinking is also counterproductive to such a routine, you can’t physically be at your best if you’re drinking.

This is just what has worked for me, but there is plenty of activities and interests out there which don’t involve drinking, if you go looking. Happiness and the life you want are out there for you – if you just stick to not drinking, and put in the effort to BUILD that life.

Take care – keep coming back.

I’m finding sobriety anything but boring! Once I had a program and a plan I found all kinds of things being black out drunk every night was holding me back from.

You’ve been around the forum a while. Found your plan yet or made any commitments?

Good luck on your renewed sober journey! :+1:

What are the things you want to achieve?

Sounds like you know what you need to do, just got to get the motivation to get going and a good routine to stick to. Having a goal to work towards might help with that

I would like my own business, because of my drinking I have never saved. They say the average business start up is 10k. I have however been offered a new job as a support worker. Beats delivering pizza. Just waiting for a start date. My ultimate goal is a green grocers.

Just need to learn to love my self and give myself time to heal. Still on the Sertraline 50mg. Does help with my mood for sure.

One day at a time for now.

Congratulations on the new job! It’s all steps forward, your own business is an awesome goal to work towards.

I have found a combination of yoga, meditation and walking have been very good for helping me make sense of my thoughts and building some self esteem.

Some links to meditations here if you haven’t tried it before and want to give it a go:
