Still sober but depression is so bad

I’m still sober and intend to stay that way but wow the feeling good factor has worn off lately, the last few days my depression has come back with a vengeance. I just don’t enjoy anything and just want to sleep. I am having therapy but the sessions are so far apart it’s making no difference. Just wish I could cheer myself up a little.

Hey Matt, sorry that you’re feeling low. For the first few months I slept so much. I napped when ever I could. How’s your eating? Are you having a few sweet treats? Can you manage to get out for short walks during the day at all? It takes quite a while for us to recalibrate after giving up the booze. Just being gentle with myself in the first few months was key to the depression working its way through, if you know what I mean? Good job on reaching out here. :folded_hands:t2: hope you feel a little lighter soon. This too shall pass :folded_hands:t2::heart:

I’m eating alot more now. I have just been up the shop and bought some chocolate treats. Yeah I have been going for walks quite frequently. Thank you for being there for me.

Try to have a nice sweet treat or two a day in the beginning. The sugar that is in booze is off the charts so your body is wanting it from some where and that won’t be helping feeling low. This place is fantastic and if we stick together we are stronger! :folded_hands:t2: keep going! You are doing fantastic :ok_hand:t2::folded_hands:t2:

Low energy, negative days are tough. It is your mind resetting. Your brain has it been put to the test this last few weeks. Where is all that free dopamine it is used to. It is choosing to go dormant, like a dying animal does. This is expected in the early stages of giving up drink. Just tell your unconscious mind that things are ok, your body and well being are safe, you are doing what is best for you. Your brain will start to perceive everything as OK again soon.

Sorry to hear you are struggling. I deal with bipolar depression so i can relate to the lows. Try not to burrow into the darkness but do at least 1 thing which is helpful for your mental health a day. And remember this is temporary! Nothing to drink over my friend. Great work reaching out.
