Hi @Ajaye welcome to the forum… you are taking a really great positive first step… acknowledging you have an issue… I had some big problems with alcohol but with the help of smart recovery, this forum, friends/ family and reading sobriety books I have been sober and the happiest I have ever been…it can be done… what are your plans to stay sober?

@Ajaye,

Hi welcome to the community.

For initial tips, I’m going to refer to @SoberWalker.

she’s shared an amazing list that’s been posted about 100 times. I should have it saved for my own use. But I’ve been slacking with that.

Anyway, it’s good to have you with us.

Did that guy really just give advice after saying he’s 18 cans deep…

Yes @SoberWalker is amazing, I think she shoots her list out bc it’s saved and so insightful.
Best advice I can give is my worst day sober has been better than my best day high. I got tired of delaying the problem out, or usually making the problem worse bc I decided to use!

Hello and welcome,
This app is a great tool for staying sober. I give you the list I make for myself @KevinesKay and @goBlue24 are reffering at. I hope it helps you too. Today I’m 315 days sober. Go for it! :facepunch:
A sober life is so much better then a drunken one…

  • No alcohol in my house
  • Refrigerator filled with nice food and alc. free drinks
  • Telling my spouse about my sober plan
  • Avoid alcohol related activities and friends (at least in the beginning)
  • Having a day counter
  • Avoid wine/beer section in the supermarket and avoid liquor store
  • Taking a strong vitamine B complex
  • Taking melatonin to help me sleep
  • Be gentle to myself, like go to bed early, taking a long bath, etc.
  • Doing relaxing activaties like meditate, yoga, walking, etc.
  • When I have cravings: I don’t pick up that first one but I walk, run, work out, eat chocolat, watch Netflix, clean, study, whatever.
  • Ask for help when I need it.
  • Be here every day to read and check in sober.

So you learned that social activities revolved around alcohol are a trigger. you’ll find other things to do with your time.

That is exactly what I’m trying to work on

Glad it is helpfull for you too!
Never thought my list will be of help for others. It’s just something I made to give my first sober days structure. But indeed you can use it with any addiction with small changes :+1:

Some ideas:

Go see a movie.
Go for a walk.
Go to the gym.
Stay home and watch Netflix.

If you’re looking to be social then,

Go to an AA meeting.
Go to church.

Out of curiosity, what are the benefits of having a strong Vitamin B complex? I’m currently above my avg. for But B consumption but why is that beneficial?

Just stick to it. The plain fact that you desire sobriety means you can achieve it!!

As the building blocks of a healthy body, B vitamins have a direct impact on your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. Vitamin B complex helps prevent infections and helps support or promote: cell health. growth of red blood cells.
