Hello, this is my first time posting, though i’ve had this app between phones for a few years but ive only decided now to make an account. Prior to now I had been smoking weed for about 3-4 years pretty heavily and it worked very well as a distraction from my life and mental state, and for a good time in general, but ive now been sober a month (a month yesterday), and my reality is crashing in on me. Ive wasted so much time, done so little, and avoided so much in the time that I was smoking that I feel now that ive got a clearer head and I’m not melted 24/7 that it’s all crashing in on me at once, and im not sure how to help it. I’m struggling to get out of bed at all sometimes unless i absolutely have to for work. Sorry for the long message, any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Welcome to the forum Casey! Congratulations on ur 1 month clean! Great work!
Its pretty normal to start feeling the effects of reality once we get clean and sober. Emotions pop up that weve been numbing, we can get very lethargic, guilt, shame, and regret can creep in… its not enjoyable at all. In early recovery, i was extremely lethargic also. Everything felt like a chore to do. It just took sooo much energy to get out of bed. I found tho that if i took babysteps, it helped. For example: 1st step, put feet on the floor. 2nd step, use the washroom. 3rd step, shower. 4th step, brush teeth. Etc. I find that once i start to get going, i gain some momentum. Its just getting started that is the hardest.
We may have wasted sooo much time in the past, but being clean and sober can open up so many new opportunities. There is no point in focusing on the past as we cant change what has already been done. We CAN however make our future bright by staying positive and productive in the present. If u have goals that u want to achieve, maybe writing down an action plan would help to sort out how to achieve those goals. Do a little each day
Do ur best to stay present and in the moment. Bcuz thats all we ever have… is this moment. Gratitude lists are great as well for reminding ourselves what we have today to be grateful for. Theres a thread on here for gratitude lists maybe check it out!
well that’s kind of like crying over spilled milk isn’t it? what are you going to do go back in time and fix it?
i think you’re better off focusing on what you can do now and going forward to waste less time and start being productive.
don’t sweat it dude move forward
Try to focus on the small things, make a list, I mean literally the smallest of steps and see if you can tick one or two of the tiny things off each day.
Go easy on yourself, it will take time for the momentum to build but it can if you just stay off the weed.
I was like you, totally lifeless, immobile, depressed, but it’s all changed! It won’t happen overnight but give it time.
Consider if you need professional help, talking therapy or maybe medicine/ antidepressants? You are saving money from the weed now, spending it on taking therapy would be an investment into your wellbeing.
