Terrible Anxiety at night

Can’t watch tv, can’t focus on anything. My anxiety is so bad I can’t think of anything but my past mistakes and how something terrible is going to happen to me in return. It’s anxiety but also paranoia. Everything is always better in the morning but damn I don’t know how I’m going to make it to morning. Prayer helps a lot so I will do that soon.

I found filling a gallon bag with ice and laying it on my chest helped settle me down enough to fall asleep

Oh jeez that sounds kinda painful lol

Try this for 10 minutes…. Breathe slowly inhale through nose try to take 8-10 seconds and hold for a few then exhale through mouth just as slowly 8-10 seconds hold for few at end and keep going as you practice longer periods you’ll be able to take fewer breaths per minute and think about nothing but the air going in n out when thoughts arise let them float in n out nothing but breath.

Well I was also dealing with major withdrawal and helped with the night sweats. I had it wrapped up in a towel

Ahhh that makes sense!

Thank you everyone! I made it to morning and feel much better today!

There is some weird man sitting in his car parked outside my house tho which is kind of causing some anxiety. He’s been sitting there for like an hour

I have no control of things outside of me. I must remind myself often.

He probably just got sent home from his job for smelling strongly of booze and now he’s on a sober time app trying to ask for help.

Call non-emergency number and report if you are really afraid you are at risk?
Do you have a plan for the next time your anxiety hits?

I like to listen to the same podcast or the same book(sometimes even the same chapter) over and over when im having bad aniexty that way if i follow an inrrusive thought when im able to bring my focous back i know whats happening in the story and its easier to focous my attention on what im listening to. I know this drives some people crazy though.

My anxiety ramps up at night as well generally prior to me taking my Latuda 60mg which I take along with Cymbalta 120mg in the a.m. for depression/anxiety. Sometimes I take the Latuda a bit earlier (6pm vs 8pm) in case of extra anxiety.

I also take magnesium and melatonin and gotta get ahold of more Valerian for sleep. When all that kicks in the anxiety is less, though I usually have to do a little prayer and meditation to really settle (I’m Catholic so let’s say 5 Haiĺ Mary’s).

Part of the anxiety I am sure comes from coming off the caffeine with which I fuel my day.

Try some herbal extract like - Valerian, Skullcap, Lemon Balm, St. John’s Wort (not if you take antidepressants), Kava, Ginko Bilboa, options are unlimited and they really work! On top of that try to relax and redirect your thoughts

The book “Peace from Anxiety” by Hala Khouri was really helpful in giving me tools to address feeli mg a of anxiety, as well as to let me know that I’m not alone, and the feelings I have are common ones. Letting go of my dependence on caffeine was helpful too!:yellow_heart:

My anxiety was horrible for about 2 months after I quit. I found Limitless seltzer helped. It has L Theamine in it. Helped me relax

Hi Sarah,

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. I had a few panic attack episodes at night when I was withdrawing from alcohol and those were very scary. A few things helped me avoid them when the anxiety would escalate:

  1. breathing exercises. it’s simpler than it seems and does work wonders
  2. a meditation app, with short narrated meditations (I use Calm)
  3. Resting my head on two pillows so my upper body was slightly elevated, and holding onto a pillow around my chest. Helped me with feelings that I was suffocating.

If I really couldn’t sleep, I would get up and watch some tv show I already watched before so nothing would surprise me or a light comedy, read a book or play a very repetitive mindless game (blockudoku for example).

Of course, if you need medical help with a diagnosed anxiety condition, it’s much better to go ahead and see a doctor. And goes without saying, if there is a real situation that is dangerous around you, make sure to address that!

I hope you feel better soon
