I have beeen sober for a little over 3 years and lately my anxiety has gotten so bad. I need medication like benzos. Which I have never had issues with before but because I have other substance abuse issues in the past I cant find a dr to perscribe medication I desperately need to function. I would take them as perscribed and not abuse them but how do I explain that when all they see is that im an addict. I just need help with my crippling anxiety. Or even some support because im about to take steps backwards over this ignorance.

There are other options besides benzos. I too used Klonopin during my active addiction to opiates and never abused it. I was also afraid that since I had been addicted to opiates, any benzo would quickly take over and I would be abusing them. The VA prescribed me buspirone (Buspar) for anxiety that was brought on by my PTSD. Buspar helped. I didn’t get the same results as the klonopin, but it did what it t was supposed to do. I still have anxiety, but with buspar and other stress relieving methods, it is not in control of my life anymore. I’d talk to your doctor about buspirone before going down the benzo rabbit hole.

I also struggle with anxiety and no benzos for me, according to my Dr. Same reason. I am prescribed Buspar (busperine) 3 times daily, and although not a cure, this med has been very good for me.

Everything makes me anxious, being anxious makes me anxious lol. I have tried Buspar and it didnt work. Ive tried everything, literally and the inly thing that ever helps is a benzo. Sucks.
Propranolol can be good and isnt addictive, it is prescribed by my gp as it may interact wth other medications.
Benzo’s are highly addictive and wouldnt be prescribed for long periods of time maybe even 3 days at a time so it could never be long term.
I suffer with anxiety really bad, there are many long-term antidepressants that work for anxiety too.
Chamomile tea and lemon balm tea help me alot.

Gabapentin is also an option. They gave me 90 capsules when I got out detox. They work well for anxious moments
