The difference between compulsion and impulsive decisions

So I was told one day that yes I do have OCD but not all my decisions I made were compulsive. It turns out that most of my decisions were indeed impulsive and I think it’s important to note the difference. So in my knowledge compulsive thought that leads to decision making Is based on a fear of something, do this thing or face x consequences whereas impulsive decisions are entirely based on how you want to feel dam to consequences. What are your thoughts on this?

For me, the difference is quite simple: impulsive is ‘spur of the moment’, probably forgotten as soon as the next thing draws our attention. Compulsive on the other hand is ‘all-consuming’, unable to let go and/or think about anything else.

I think that asking for detailed individual psychiatric advice on Talking Sober is unwise.

I don’t say that to be dismissive or discouraging, just to say that the question you’re asking has a lot of personal details that relate to your personal life and social and medical history, and there’s no way you could safely share all those details on Talking Sober (it is confidential info that should not be shared on this public forum).
