The physical symptoms of quitting weed

Hello everyone

Quitting weed after 13 years of moderate daily use since my habit turned full dependency these last 2 years. Staying at home during lockdown and trying to maintain work and life, it has been my fuel for productivity since work/social life has changed. While I considered it a helpful aid in self medicating symptoms I associate with ADHD, anxiety and depression, lately it has contributed more to those symptoms than I’d like to admit. I needed to get serious after my lungs started to get worse with the asthma symptoms that I had grown out of.

I’m 5 days into my sobriety. Feeling stronger with avoiding the cravings associated with my regular old puff-points of the day but now am feeling symptoms reminiscent of a cold, even though I’m not sick. Last night my throat got sore and got worse today. It’s annoying and strange that my throat wouldn’t hurt with repeated smoking through a stubby pipe, but starts to be sore when I quit.

I’ve been reading online that people who quit long term cannabis use experience cold and flu like symptoms after they quit smoking, sometimes lasts weeks! Thought I would reach out to this awesome community and see if anyone had experienced anything similar to these respiratory cold/flu like symptoms (sore throat, body aches, cold shivers, exhausted).

Honestly, i can’t afford to volunteer into sickness when I’m in rocky economic territory, but then again my body can’t afford to feed a long-term sickness.

(I’m confident I’m not sick; no gland pain and its not progressing or feeling like a viral bug )

Thanks for you time and peace, love and strength to you all! This community has given me a new lease on life when others belittle the idea of a weed dependency.

I quite weed prior to getting sober so I was still using other drugs, some quite heavily, but I’d say for 30 days I had mild to sometimes moderate withdrawals. Loss of appetite, insomnia, irritability and lethargy were the big ones.

you’ll get through it, be ready to start spitting stuff up from your lungs for a couple weeks too.

Never had flu symptoms after, but a lot of bronchitis symptoms during the years i smoke.
It’s been years, maybe I forgot. The thing i’ll never forget is the shivering and sleepless nights.

When I quit smoking weed I got extremely nauseous. Threw up alot. That’s the only symptom I remember to be honest lol and the only reason why I remember that is bcuz I was a cashier at Walmart and I ended up throwing up into the bucket in front of my customers :face_vomiting: but yes definitely physical symptoms when quitting

sore throat, lack of sleep for about 40 nights then crazy dreams, irritable, boredom with life, any aches and pains I had suddenly appeared, convinced I was having a heart attack or stroke at one point as my mind and body had a complete breakdown on day 3 and 4. And if I felt guilty about the munchies I ate while stoned its nothing compared to all the shit I can eat now but that’s probably more to do with the sugar my body wants bc of no alcohol either.

Stay with it my friend, I didn’t feel well for about 2 weeks when I quit smoking if I recall correctly. I’d get cold sweats at night, the throat hurting is honestly likely from your throat healing and having the space to feel that in. My dreams were also very vivid as my brain began working properly again-quitting showed me that smoking impacted me much more than I realized. Good luck, well done on your 5 days-keep going!

I’m on 27 days and I experience sweating hot cold hot cold pretty bad anxiety alot of brain fog bizarre vivid dreams, severe insomnia loss of appetite very bad mood swings and a roller coaster of emotions depressed then happy then angry and just numb no feelings.its getting alot better after 27 days.i smoked and ate alot of weed and everyone’s body is different but it’s worth it weed isn’t what it’s cracked up to be it’s not a miracle cure for everything like it’s being advertised as.it has its benefits but in the end I feel for me the cons outweigh the pros.you got this you can quit I’ll pray for you have a blessed day
