Thoughts on non-alcoholic drinks

What are the thoughts about substituting non-alcoholic drinks that have a similar taste as what we would have had in the past? Is this a bad idea and opening up a door back to drinking alcohol again, or is this a way to help with some of the cravings to hold a glass in your hand as you socialize?

This is probably one of the most discussed questions on these threads. If you use the :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: in the top right corner you will find many. The end answer is that these often lead to relapse and should be avoided if you feel like your sobriety is still early and at risk. I used to drink them in early sobriety and didn’t relapse but I did rely on them to help me feel comfortable in bars which is actually just a big no no. Sober people shouldn’t feel comfortable in drinking establishments. That is asking for trouble.

I am 4+ years away from my last drink and my interest in NA replacement beers is waning. They are calorie and sugar bomb. Stick to sodas and fizzy waters and you won’t get drunk. Welcome!

I tried that when I was struggling to quit drinking. I found it pointless and just made me want the real thing.

I don’t see the point honestly. I think it’s a bad idea as far as replacing real alcohol. Especially since some do have a small amount of alcohol in them. For me one drop is to many and a thousand is never enough. Personal choice but I think a bad one.
