It’s because it’s an antique mall, which is like thrift shop adjacent. We had them back home in the northeast US, but not many. They are numerous in the southwest. Coincidentally this one (my favorite one) is less than a mile away.

It’s not all antiques, its mostly just random stuff like you’d find in a normal thrift store. It’s a big building with booths run by individual vendors, and yes, some stick to a specific theme or niche.

I can get plenty of stuff there for ā€œthrift pricesā€, but there’s plenty of stuff that isn’t thrifty. This cactus lamp is $125 USD, which is fair since its custom, but I’m not gonna pay that much. Someone will though!

I would love to wander around in such a shop :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Treasure hunting in optimum forma.

This cardigan/coat cost Ā£12.50 in the Salvation Army shop. The label says Terry Macey and it’s 100% wool, perfect condition. Google lens tells me these coats are between Ā£395 and Ā£695 new!

Just four quid for this Noah’s Ark scene painted on glass.

I feel like they could’ve saved a broader range of animals.

Also not sure the peafowl are going to make it :joy:

I got these gorgeous wooden dishes in my favourite thrift shop today. The wood had become very dull and I almost passed them by. I’ve just cleaned and waxed them and spotted their little faces on the underside! I think they were Ā£2 each.

Y’all! For YEARS I have wanted Gone with the Wind decorative plates. I’ve found them here and there, but never bought any because I figured I’d spend the money on more important things—like food and bills.

I figured if God wanted me to have one, He’d give me one.

:clap:t2: Y’ALL! :clap:t2:

I just got this for free!!!

This is my God wink, for sure!

6 men, 1 woman and only a single member of each species….

Not much foresight.

But I guess they were rushed.

Edit: 2 male peacocks. :folding_hand_fan: :rainbow:

Such a fulfilling project to do Delia! Since you showed a wooden bowl you find and made it as new I’m still looking for one myself. But no such luck.

Great find again :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Okay… allow me to have an art history/religion nerd moment.

I’ve been thinking of your Noah’s Flood painting all night and all morning.

Typically artists would represent the Flood narrative as close to the Genesis account as positive. There would be obvious stylized versions with generous amounts of artist license. However, they’re usually the same. Animals from around the world (or the world that they knew) and 8 people. 4 men, 4 women.

I made a joke about the peacocks, but then immediately started to think about that.

Peacocks are native to India.

6 men, 1 woman.

On closer inspection, all the animals in the boat are find in or around India.

So, I dove into research and there is an ancient account of an Indian flood!

It’s found in the Matsya Purana in which Manu is warned by a fish, who’s revealed to be Vishnu, of an impending flood. So he saves sages and animals (because apparently none of the women were worth saving ) and is guided to the Himalayan mountains to safety. In the water arises Ida who helps repopulate the world. Hence the one woman!, the clearly not Hebrew or Greek script, and their style of dress.

I’m so excited! A beautiful painting has turned into an exceedingly rare treasure!

I’m more excited for you than I was before!!!

@Deelzebub Thanks for it all … I loved the picture even before all the very informative information.

Personally would love to know the artist and date…..Miracles do happen… and realizing living on such a watercraft with the passengers for any length of time had to be a miracle..
