Thriftshop treasures from all over the world šŸŒ

I didnā€™t buy it but oh my, how I wish I would have it 30 years ago  Itā€™s a big dollhouse, around 120cm

My boys unfortunately donā€™t like it, what a pity I donā€™t have a daughter :sweat_smile:

Idk how old this is, but I got it for $1 twenty years ago!

This is a mini racing luge. For $4 I was shocked at how fast it is!

Just got this recently. $1.50 abalone shell Iā€™m using as a jewelry dish.

I have such a shell as well! I use it to burn sage in it.
And the luge? I had to translate it and if my translation is fine you need to sit on it? A kind of sleigh?

Yes. Like a tiny bobsled. It says ā€˜race seriesā€™ on it and they werenā€™t kidding  Iā€™d never seen anything like it and didnā€™t know what to expect. There were actually 2 of the exact same one and I forever regret not buying both.

Ha ha I understand that! Then you could race together, that would be fun!
Ps How many times I came home after vistithing a triftshop and still thinking about something I havenā€™t bought :hugs:
One time I returned the next morning to buy the item I regret buying the day before, but it was gone :sob:

Every day before sleep I read two chapters of Tow Truck Pluck (Pluk van de Petteflet) for my kids, they absolutely love it! I didnā€™t know itā€™s such a well known book in Netherlands to be honest, just borrow it from library cause I like the drawing. Dutch ppl probably know what Iā€™m talking about @SoberWalker
So yesterday I went to triftshop and I found 3 cups and 3 glasses with Pluck! What a happiness it bring to my boys  And what a luck! Exactly 3 from each, for all of them.

We all grew up with the writing of Annie MG Schmidt and the drawings of Fiep Westendorp. Still love them so much. Loved to have been one of the StampertjesšŸ’•

Annie M.G Smith wrote lots of lovely child books. I also had ā€œAbeltjeā€, thatā€™s also a very cute one. There is also made a movie of that book. Do not know if thatā€™s any good, but the book is!
Well she made so many good books!
And I love the cups and glasses! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
The Hema is selling lots of ā€œJip & Jannekeā€ stuff, thatā€™s also from books of her.

I collect bobbleheads, specifically baseball. The antique malls here are a great place to hunt for them.
Usually I stick just to Diamondbacks players (the team in Arizona where I live) or a player I really, really liked. Keeps the collection lean.

Anyhow.
I couldnā€™t resist this one, just too cool to pass up. The Orioles are the team from Baltimore, and this is their mascot (simply called, The Oriole Bird) playing baseball, in bobblehead form.

I am a big-time romantic when it comes to baseball - its history, its place in Americana, and the magic that can only happen on a baseball diamond. Oriole Bird is one of the most beloved and iconic baseball mascots, so this find feels really great. It was apparently part of a 2002 stadium giveaway.

Now you made me curious about your collection T-mac :hugs: Willing to share a picture of them all together?
One of my kids had such a bobblehead, it was Shrek. One day he felled and didnā€™t make it :face_with_peeking_eye:

Oh, sure :slightly_smiling_face:
Most were found in antique malls so it technically counts.

2 more antique mall finds for my collection over the last few weeks

This is Bob Brenly, who managed/coached the Diamondbacks to their first (and thus far, only) championship, back in 2001. He has now done their color commentary for TV broadcasts for several years. Generally beloved by Diamondback fans.

Same trip, found a commemorative license plate to match with him.

Pittsburgh Pirates mascot
Technically their mascot is a bright green parrot, but also, Pirates.
I might bring this one back to Massachusetts and give it to my motherā€™s husband. We share a love of baseball, collectibles, and we both enjoy watching the Pirates even though its not the primary team for either of us.

Lastly, not from an antique mall, but rather a giveaway at the Diamonbacks game this past weekend, got it there.
Gabi Moreno is their young star catcher, this is to commemorate his first Gold Glove award, recā€™d last season (you can see his mitt is painted gold). The award is given each season to the player who has the greatest defensive abilities at his position.

And for @SoberWalker , updated group pic. Itā€™s getting out of hand.

Thanks for the udate T-mac!
I was wondering: are they expencive? Is it a ā€œthingā€ to collect them where you live and so hard to find?
Havenā€™t been in a triftshop lately, only in second hands cloths shops. Bought myself a nice leather bike jacket for a few bucks

Depends on a number of things - what player it is (were they well-known, were they good for their team but not widely recognized, were they among the best in the game, etc), how old it is, is it a special commemorative one for a player award, etc. There are some serious collectors that pay hundreds for the old school ceramic ones from 50+ years back. Then more recent ones, like the Gabi Moreno one I got, show up on ebay the day after the stadium giveaway for $50+.

Thereā€™s a pretty solid subset of baseball fans that are memorabilia collectors - whether itā€™s baseball cards, autographs, jerseys, game-used equipment, bobbles, etc.

On average I probably pay $10-$15 a piece. It just requires patience and knowing where to look! Itā€™s way easier to find Diamondbacks ones around here since they are the local team.

This one below is SUPER cool, but the prices are really high. Itā€™s from this year when the NY Mets played a game in London. Just a really great idea for a commemorative bobble. Similar to Oriole Bird, Mr Met is an iconic baseball mascot. Currently on ebay for $75-$100. Not happening!

EDIT: so this kind of shows one of my points - I hadnā€™t realized, but the London game hasnā€™t even happened yet! These are people selling them on ebay before they even have them.

I bought this from one of my favorite antique stores today. Itā€™s a small vase that says Kaiser 696 on the bottom. I canā€™t find another one out the internet but Iā€™m having fun trying.

Thatā€™s what I always do as well: try to find information about it on the internet. Sometimes I even start doing so in the triftshop because Iā€™m curious what the item is and used for.
Sometimes you see things and you think wtf is that? :face_with_monocle:

The store I went to had some beautiful Eames chairs and all sorts of lovely things. I walked around and mentally furnished a whole new house.:sunglasses:
