I wanna sober up but I always break down after being a week sober, any tips on what can help or what I can be doing to help?
The biggest thing that helps me is to remember the reason I’m quitting and continue to focus on how drinking makes me feel after the buzz goes away. Like every time a craving comes on, I try to think about and really remember how a hangover and depression really feel.
If you’re like me what’ll happen is you’ll keep circling through the stages of: craving, think about how it makes me feel, remember how shitty it feels, then craving subsides. Then a few minutes later it’ll come back and I’ll cycle through again.
But if you continue to just not drink, it’ll go away for a while. Like I tend to only get cravings at times when I would be out and able to buy alcohol. If I can just breath through the cravings at those times, when I’m home they won’t be as strong.
Also helps to journal through it. Come here and write about it when it happens and think about what is driving you to want a drink so you can begin brainstorming alternative ways to deal with those feelings.
