Train to run 5k with me!

Any beginner or wanna-be runners out there? Let’s train together!

Running for me is a way to calm the anxiety, and self-loathing. It is also a great distraction from cravings.

So I’m starting this plan today, with yesterday being my first rest day, and today being the first walk/run. Come join me, and let’s keep each other motivated!

How fun!! I run a few miles every few days and I really enjoy how it makes me feel and the sense of accomplishment. A solid C25K is a great start!

I love that plan and have done it before. Last time I started running on a regular basis I ended up with sciatica. Poor form, I guess. So, I now go to the gym and do the bike and weights! Have fun!!

Awe, shame about the sciatica. Well, if you ever want to give it another go, come back and keep us posted.

First active day of the schedule done.

Think I’ll use my rest days for walking/hiking starting tomorrow.

As the weather improves I may give it another go. I don’t fancy myself a runner, even on my best day. I kinda trudge. But I’m out there and I enjoy. Looking forward to seeing how you and others do. As we know, strength in numbers.

Second run day of the schedule, and halfway through the first week. A vast improvement from my first day:

Start today, and let’s do this together! Who’s in?

I was violently irritable pre-run, and worked myself up into a right tantrum that nearly resulted in a smashed phone. All because of a glitchy app. However, now that I’m back from my run, I am feeling completely zen (and a little embarrassed).

I realise not many people have expressed interest in joining me, but I’m just going to keep posting here anyway. To anyone who feels compelled to give it a go, feel free to start at any point, and share how it’s going.

Week 2 - 15 reps of 1 min walk/ 1 min run. Had to stop and start over again after 6 reps because I bumped into a neighbour and stopped to chat for a bit. My legs are spaghetti.

The last two walk/runs of week 2:

Haven’t been doing the optional cardio days, but am going to start tomorrow. Rest days will also now be Pilates days - my knees are in need of some conditioning.

Anyone up for starting the challenge this week?

I have been on a 5k plan for months😂. Just totally not progressing. Will def try to get on it properly. Ran 3 intervals of 5 mins today.

That’s great! Keep going! If it helps, I’ve found this plan to be a really good pace, and not too demanding of my time. I’m even starting to actually enjoy it, haha. Keep us posted on your progress.

I was “running” regularly last spring and summer. Was tremendous. Will look to get back out there soon.

We’re having our basement finished so the treadmill has been unavailable and I hate running outdoors in the cold New England winter so I’ve been LAZY. Have put about 25 lbs on from inactivity and increased calorie intake (mostly from beer) now that I’ve stopped that again increasing my activity level should help shed some unneeded weight.

Not committing to a 5k yet, but I have an eye on getting to the point where I’m doing an unofficial one around the neighborhood a few times a week.

I’m no speed demon but at 48 I’m happy to have 9:30 or so miles.

Meant to update with my last run. They were supposed to be 2 x 8 mins, didn’t quite manage it😢

Way to go! Keep going!

Ran two intervals of 8 mins, no prob, the weather was just perfect, and my breakfast was enough to give me energy, but not so much to weigh me down, felt good!

Brilliantly done! Way to go! What will your next run be?

I’ve got to run easy for 30 mins straight in 2 days. It feels impossible at the moment, but we’ll see.

Aiming for two ten minutes. I really struggle with jumps into extended running. I have to make the intervals a tiny bit longer each time. Good luck for your 30 minutes!

@Northlander17 How is it going? I ran 14 min, walked for 4, ran 10. Pretty chuffed. If I run the planned 20 mins next time I’ll be back where I was 6 months ago :joy:

@Misokatsu That’s fantastic! You’re almost there! Keep it up!

Ran 25 mins yesterday. Today is cardio day, and then tomorrow is 5k day! Following that, I will be moving onto the 5k to 10k schedule that I will post on this thread for anyone that is interested.
