Truth and Tough Love #2

I do really think that there is enough good information within this forum that is someone were to bother reading it and have the willpower then they could attain and maintain sobriety. Everything you hear in meetings etc is laid out for people. It’s just missing the in person support that said I wouldn’t give my meetings up for anything. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think so too. This app has so much good info and helpful people. At least sobriety happened for me here…so I may be biased.

No I don’t think that your biased, I’ve spent well over thirty days reading here now and the information is definitely there for the taking. :+1:

There’s definitely exceptions to the rule. But you also realize the value of said programs.

Good one!!

maybe an 8? dedicated to a personal program? idk. theres some people maintaining sobriety on here wo attending any formal progam that have crafted their own and its working quite well. i think some of the difference w people like sassy and yoda are that they are dedicated to the stuff they do to stay sober, continued effort to improve, and addressing more than simply not allowing alcohol/drugs in their system. a more complete mind body spirit type thing. day in and day out. both those two have posted their programs and no doubt others could find success following their example if they gave it a full and honest effort. but i think we get a lot of traffic here where people arent actually “done” ya know? not knocking those who arent honestly there yet either, i know i had to have every drink/drug i did to get me to a point where i was willing to try something besides my next best plan. its hard to get a recovery going until youre truly just entirely done w all active addiction mess

Guess I took the easy route, I used a bunch of those things and saved myself another 25 years of drinking and drugging.

I would venture to say that meditation has some CBT value, and I have compared this app to an AA meeting on so many occasions, people from different walks of life gathering with the common goal of sobriety.

I don’t care how any of us get sober or stay sober, just that we do. I don’t want people to suffer any more than they have too.

And Stevie, don’t be so salty :joy: let it go man

Yeah, I know I did myself no favors taking the long way. But that was my journey / life. I applaud all the smarties who got there earlier. Nothing to be proud of being a drunk / druggie for 40 years…but again…my life.

This is what I meant by there being enough information on here to attain and maintain sobriety. If it is followed then it is all you need. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:

Exactly on being done…I wasn’t done for a very very very long time. Such is life.

The successful personal programs often incorporate some very old-school methods of self improvement, like yoga/ meditation/ martial arts/ being in nature/ journal writing, etc., all of which go further back in human history than 12 steps or even therapy as it’s currently practiced. I’m not knocking any of the practices or methods; I love therapy and it’s really helped me; all are helpful to many people. The main point is that to change, you need to be willing to learn and use whatever might help, without clinging to the idea that you already know everything.

Haha. Yes you haven’t. But you are the exception. Not the rule. Steve too. And a handful of others.
Y’all are amazing. But I know that I couldn’t have done it the way y’all did

Well, at least I have medical and mental health professionals that tell me I AM DIFFERENT AND SPECIAL.
