Actually it never gets old as getting sober is always the best thing we can do for ourselves. Welcome back. Let’s do this. One day at a time for all of us.
Thank you for your support
I know that what this community is for but still like to hear from others
Because it helps
Trying to improve yourself never gets old. And as you progress you will learn things about yourself, and once you get sober you will have more time to do things that interest you and give you energy. Or even just allow you to rest fully.
Dont’t give up. I remember those feelings all too well. Every day I would wake up and promise myself I would stop and by the end of each day my motivation was depleted. I now realize I was trying to look at it from the big picture and would get overwhelmed quickly. After my near fatal overdose on alcohol and other substances I realized I didn’t want to die. My drunk persona did, but the sober me did not. Then I heard a saying in AA that helped me. Focus on just for today. Tell myself just for today I will not drink and then when you get through the day- say a prayer. Be thankful I didn’t drink that day and pray for gods strength to help me to do it again tomorrow. (I was not a person who prayed, nor did I want to accept gods help at that time) but the gift of desperation made me willing to do anything to not only get sober but stay sober and the saying in the rooms, ‘fake it til you make it’ which I did until it became real and I was actually staying sober. One day at a time.
It’s been just over 6-1/2 years now. It’s still and always will be one day at a time. So my advice- tell yourself just for today you will not drink and if it works do it again tomorrow. AND if it doesn’t work today then definitely try again tomorrow.
