Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section. I’m wanting to know if anyone in the UK can share their experience of AA. I’m struggling to get through my alcohol addiction, I’m not particularly religious but going to a group meeting 2 or 3 times a week would probably help me. I’m completely weak when it comes to being alone and no one knows I’m drinking. Which isn’t every night but happens quite often. I’m trying and the post about how people hide their drinking is totally me. Anyhows any UK AA people who can share any insight?
Going to go to my first AA UK meeting Monday, can let you know how it goes? X I am not particularly religious either x
How did it go?
@Libertineash hi, I am not religious but find aa really good, it is a spiritual programme not a religious one unless you want to make it so, just give it a try
It was really good. They were all really welcoming. I thought people outside AA talked about interpreting the higher power as something other than God and that once you got to a meeting you would have to keep your thoughts to yourselves but… various people mentioned in their chats that higher power meant something different to them, people also admitted they had been weary of joining because of the God thing. One lady told me her higher power is the huge tree at the end of her garden, she said she looks up at it and it inspired her. Everyone was welcoming, I came away with 2 ladies phone numbers just in case. Going to another one tonight, they told me more women and slightly younger women go to this one. I would recommend giving it a go. I have never met people who have similar thoughts and actions with alcohol as I have had, so a lot of what was said I completely got. X
