I once did something called the three peaks years ago where ever that was and Snowden I think, Iām not sure about Snowden TBH I was young and just got told to walk up a mountain but we were in whales so very likely.
Oooh I love good walk! Itās not anywhere mountainous is it?? I once got tricked to walk up helvellyn in the lake district and ever since Iāve been terrible with heights
Ermm itās the peak district but I donāt know how it compares to Helvellynā¦ @DarrenUK would be able to give you more info
This is the route (@Lilemm too)
16th May
That brought back a memory. An ex and I were in the Lake District and he said ālets do a gentle hikeā. Donāt know which one. Do know it was harder going down, and I couldnāt walk properly for literally days !!
Can I join? Have done some hiking in the Peak District before I got unhealthy, was only saying to my wife at the weekend that I want to get out there.
Nah, I got to the top just as the main mountain walk starts (canāt remember which side) although we had been walking for a few hours at that point, once at the very top everything started spinning, felt like I was gonna pass out so walked back down again, never really did the main ridge partā¦ not the best way to find you youāve got vertigo, I thought I was gonna die I was told we were going on a stroll, I wasnāt even wearing proper shoes
Cool well Iāll bare it in mind, itās pretty far away from me but would be quite the adventure
My wife and I went up Snowdon a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it was really cloudy and wet. We climbed up into the trig point and she was clinging to it like we were trying to scramble along a cliff edge. I asked her what was wrong and she said Iām scared of heights.
Couldnāt even see the cafe from where we were stood! Yet she knew we were at height.
Its such a strange thing, when we were walking up to it from the car park, I just thought it all would be like paths along the mountain side which I was happy about, but as we started ascending higher (still at this point had no idea what our āfriendā had in store for us) all the pieces of slate on the hillside started moving which I thought was weird but didnāt pay much attention.
Then when we got to the top and I could see the sky and all the tops of the other mountains they all started spinning (it had started hailstoning just as we got to the top of helvellyn too, which I said was a sign from God to gtf off ) you know that room spin feeling if youāre too drunk?? Well it was like that, but at the top of a mountainā¦ I lost my footing and everything it was so scary.
I was elated when we got back down though, I felt like Iād been given another chance at life
Wow. Iāve had my battles with height over the years but on a mountain Iām ok. Iām still on solid ground.
On a roof Iām ok, most of the time. I go wall climbing a lot.
But I donāt think I could climb one of those tall masts.
Iād be up for snowdonia 3 more weeks and I can start getting training days in, bloody frustrating at the moment with other commitments. @anon12657779 you need to pm me when I miss too much of this thread Darren have you calculated time in that 20 miles for accent and decent, my concern is that you would be hitting around 11hrs walk time with varying abilities in the group still up for it though
Iām in if it works logistically
Ok Michelle.
It has gone a bit nuts lately.
Iād like to do the Crib Goch route ok on Snowdon. But Iād rather go with someone than on my own.
I did 30 miles in the peaks last year in under 12 hours, donāt know how the ups and downs would compare though!
The other thing to look at is as the Peak District route is circular, people can come and go as they please really. Work a route out back to base, so to speak.
All welcome! Like @anon12657779 said can do as much or as little as people like, doesnāt have to be the full 20 miles.
Darren I am guessing there are plenty of accomodation options by Mam Tor? Iād be happy to camp or hotel.
I can also help with transport if people from further afield can get themselves to Liverpool or Manchester.
We will definitely have to have some Bakewell pudding too!
Thereās a nice 100 mile walk accoss North Yorkshire. Never done it, itās called the Cleveland Way. Most people take camping gear and sleep at certain points of the walk. The 20 miler sounds nice. I have never been to the Peak District.
Itās on my birthday Iād love to do it but transport is an issue.x
If we have enough interest shall we start talking dates and getting some sort of commitment down? Iām happy camping for the night
