Unusual Addiction? What’s yours

I’ve recently been reading Russell Brands book about recovery and he states that we can often replace one addiction with the other. I’ve come to realise one of mine, Notebooks.
I’m not sure if it gives me a false sense of control over my life and a feeling of organisation. Nevertheless I found myself in WHSmith patrolling the stationary section, stroking every notebook and picking them up and putting them down. I’m proud to say I beat my impulses today and instead purchased some bits for work and also scrapbooking. I was curious if anyone else had any unusual addictions, if so, what’s yours?

Hmmmm. I get obsessed about certain things, though, it’s not a new thing, always been this way. Maybe obsessed is the wrong word; I get laser focused on things and sometimes it interferes with day to day life. Right now, I’m focused on cleaning my pig sty of a house, it is all I do, from the moment I wake to moment my head hits the pillow, and then I dream about it.

My family has learned to stay out of my way when I’m “in the zone”, and right now, I’m in it!

I love a good list! That’s partially my excuse for notebooks although I don’t think 50+ notebooks a healthy number for ‘a list’ :joy:

@Baiana I used to write lists to the point it would interfere with my mental health. I would never stick to the lists so now I just write short lists with easy goals.

My unusual addiction is clicking my jaw. Crunch!

Hammers. Whenever I’m in the home improvement store I always have to look at the hammers, pick some up, swing one or two. I’m not in the market for a hammer. I definitely don’t need any more hammers, but the desire is definitely there. Currently I am sober concerning my hammer addiction. :hammer:

Oh jeez, whatever show I’m watching on Netflix! It’s like that old Lay’s potato chip commercial: betcha can’t watch just one episode! They don’t call it “binge watch” for nothing!

Oh yes. I think anything that purports to bring order to my life is on the replacement list. I have stacks of notebooks none of them ever fully used. But i will say a vision board has replaced the notebooks and I think is way healthier. I used to be addicted to making myselfsneeze at one stage.

Great thread and some great addictions :joy:
I’m beginning to think I’m not normal, as It would seem it’s very normal to have an added unusual addiction. :face_with_monocle::face_with_monocle:
All the best

Oh my - me and notebooks is definitely an issue. I have taken to journaling big time which means I obviously need hundreds of beautiful notebooks, and nice pens, pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, colouring pencils… the list could go on. My ex husband used to joke all the time that I was a massive stationery geek but my obsession has recently gotten out of control since I stopped drinking. On the go at the moment I’ve got The Well Being Journal (love this one by Mind), a gratitude journal, a daily reflections journal, two to do list notebooks (one for work, one for home), an inspirational/positive thoughts notebook and not to mention all the spares in a drawer just because I couldn’t resist their pretty covers. But hey ho, I’ve saved over £1000 not drinking for 66 days so a few notebooks won’t kill me. :joy::books::ledger::pencil2::crayon::fountain_pen::books:
