Using dreams and their impact

So I still get dreams where I’m using. They seem so real. Nothing compares to the relief when I wake up and realise it was a dream and I’m not off the wagon. The dreams are becoming fewer thankfully and are now also including the ‘bad times’ of using

Anyone else have using dreams and how do you deal with them?

Hey there! I get them every now and then also. They can feel very real. Thankfully at 4.5 plus years clean and sober, i dont get them as often or as intense anymore. They tend to happen when ive been really stressed or overwhelmed the day of. I think its my subconscious mind trying to cope with the stress thru these dreams.

I just view them as a dream tho. They can be unsettling but im so grateful to still have my recovery intact upon waking up

After a year and a half I still get them every couple of weeks, I actually had one last night. Using dreams (basically nightmares) are upsetting, but like you said there is a huge amount of relief when I wake up and I’m still sober. I think if I didn’t truly want to be sober I wouldn’t experience that feeling of relief :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

I get them too- less now than I used to. I find that they’re worse when I go to bed anxious about something.

In the beginning, I had them often. And I think it may be on here where someone told me that it’s totally normal, and the more time you get the less you will have them. I know exactly what you’re saying about the feeling of relief when you go wait a minute, that was a dream. I have a little over four years and honestly, I don’t remember the last time I had one, but in the beginning, they were vivid. I told the guy in AA that I had them, and he said we call those “freebies.” Which I thought was kind of funny, everyone’s different, I do use humor to make serious things more palatable.

Dreams are our window into our real feelings, fears, joys. I think you should be proud of yourself, the dream basically represents that devil trying to get you, but you are overcoming it in reality. Keep up the good work!
