Vintage musical equipment

It never ceases to amaze me. We all are completely different, from all parts of the world, gender, interest, blah, blah blah. But we all have one common thread recovery! Does anybody else collect vintage musical equipment? I know it seems kind of random. But it has been my finding after being in and out of bands for many years, there are lots and lots of musicians in recovery. Anybody have some pictures of their old gear?

Most of my equipment is fairly new. The current guitar I have at my house that I play the most is a 2014 fender telecaster. All of my related equipment for recording or playing is in the last 10 years. I do have a 1988 Jackson guitar at my parents house that was my uncles and it got sold at a pawnshop and my dad tracked it down in Baltimore Maryland and bought it back. I really only keep the equipment at my house that I play the most. I will try to post a picture of the Jackson guitar. I also have a really old loop pedal like maybe 20 years old and I refuse to buy a new one because it still works just fine. Other than that everything I have is new. I’ve always wanted to get a 70s Strat or telecaster by fender. But I’m sure staying sober I’ll have plenty of opportunities to find interesting things at pawnshops or online. Is there anything vintage that is your favorite that you have? Cool topic

Wow! When you mean loop pedal, do you mean the original delay? Like now you can get a delay pedal. But a long time ago they actually had one that had recording tape. I’ve seen one at a jam session. And I’ll bet whoever liked that Jackson guitar sure like Randy Rhodes. He was amazing in that time period. I really don’t have too much, but my buddy who I’ve been playing with for over 30 years collect, and I mean really collects, probably over 20 strats and teles. I bring my own guitar, but he allows me to plug into any amplifier I want. I’ll post a picture of my favorite one.

They seriously don’t make them like this anymore. This has to be 20 or 15 years old probably 20 years. The amount of things you can loop is insane the quality gets less good the more loops you have but I always use it for writing guitar because I can figure out the rhythm and then loop it and work on the lead guitar by myself. You also can save loops I think 12 different loops onto the machine or pedal. Over the years I have used this to loop all kinds of things like mic up drums and looping it and Then playing guitar over it.. But I mainly use it for layering guitar parts and figuring out songs

Yeah the Jackson was my uncles guitar and He had maybe 20 or 30 guitars as well but it’s a long story that’s the only one that survived but the landlord sold everything when he passed away and my dad tracked down that Jackson at a pawnshop it’s pretty crazy story. I really love music equipment and I definitely want to get some vintage things down the line especially older guitars like I said. I have a lot of different instruments and equipment but I usually stick to fender guitars more than anything. Especially a telecaster because it’s very versatile and you can get so many different sounds

This is my guitar, which is a 77 Ibanez artist. But his amplifier, I really like Selmer. They are British made, but just didn’t get the hype that vox and Marshall did.

That is awesome! So you can make a rhythm track and then go play a lead over it? That’s wicked! And I love hearing stories of guitars coming back to the original owner. Peter Frampton‘s Gibson went down in a plane crash, but he got it back something like 40 years later.

Yes exactly you connect the loop pedal and the amp and everything together obviously and you get the levels right and you play a portion of a song that is well practiced And consistent and with good timing you use your foot to press down on the pedal and it saves it and immediately will start repeating that 10 or 20 second Loop or whatever it is And then you can immediately start playing other things over top of it like lead or whatever you want. It’s really good for practicing songwriting in my opinion but it takes a long time to get good with the rhythm and timing. There is videos online of people that have full-blown bands by themselves because of loop pedals. I think brand new they are about $200 now. There is a reason or many reasons I stick to the one that I have mostly because it still works. God forbid something happened and I lost all of my equipment probably the first thing I would buy is a loop pedal! And that’s the first thing I recommend to anybody that is wanting to buy a pedal or some thing random or new

That guitar is beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I have never really experimented with any other amps besides Marshall . I like the warm sound that I get from them. I feel like looking on the vintage section on guitar center now lol

Remember, I was telling you about asking at yard sales. This was a garage sale and I asked the lady. She goes. Let me ask my husband. He’s like yeah but it’s all dusty and in the garage. I said let me have a look. JCM900

That’s awesome!! I always forget about garage sales or even sometimes estate sales will have stuff

The problem with estate sales is they’re usually run by a third-party and they really mark up the prices.

This is my second favorite find, Kalamazoo USA, practice Amp. Kalamazoo was Gibson’s entry-level for beginners. Turns out they are sought after by harmonica players

Not vintage, but a classic and one of my favorite amps.

This was the first equipment I had for recording .. this exact one. I think I paid 50 bucks to get this from my friend Probably around 2004 and if I remember the hardest part was finding high bias Cassette tapes(tapes for multitracking). I guess at this point this is considered vintage and I definitely would look into getting this used I don’t think they make them new anymore.

This is my 2014 fender telecaster that I bought with a tax return in 2014. It’s the only music equipment that I have that lasted through my addiction. When I bought this guitar online they had only made a certain amount of them because of the swirl paint job and at the time I was pretty physically addicted to drugs and alcohol and I literally remember there was an Eviction paper laying on my floor( spring 2014) and I don’t even think I had electricity I had an extension cord going to a neighbors house and I remember I bought this guitar and when it got delivered I ended up going to rehab for the first time. I remember thinking at the time that I really need to get this guitar so I have some thing that is going to stick around because otherwise I knew I would blow that Whole entire tax return and just get worse.. This guitar has been everywhere with me but At the same time it’s been stashed in so many different houses and places throughout the years. This guitar has very sentimental value to me and I also love playing this guitar and I don’t like any other guitars anymore Mainly because I’ve played them all and it just wasn’t the same. I’ve played some other telecasters and I feel like you can get so many different kinds of sounds out of this guitar. Is very versatile. I feel like this guitar is only going to go up in value but I will never sell this guitar.

I have never regretted that purchase. It actually forced me into rehab sooner at the time and in retrospect it’s not like I would’ve paid my electric bill, bought groceries or taken care of rent.. I am 100% positive that’s not what I would’ve done with that money if I didn’t buy that guitar

Its the AC30’s little brother, the AC15.

As for guitar, i think my 2 favorites are the Fender Jaguar and Gretsch semi-hollow body.

As soon as I saw it, I said that’s a cool color. But it’s the story, and the sentimental value that was most interesting. Every guitar has a story, and yours has a good one! Yeah, and you made me think, the money we have blown on junk, guitars are a much much much better investment! Lol.
