Visiting London. How to vaca without drink

Every trip I have been on in my life has involved alcohol. I am shocked to say it but it is true.

A month long interail trip in my 20’s, Caribean trips in my 30’s, disney trips with kids in my 40’s with each day ending in a drink. It was a part of the fun and part of the holiday.

I was born in uk and have been in usa for 20 years. I will be going back to one of my favorite cities. I can’t wait.

I am having such a problem rewiring my brain away from the pub scene. I can happily visit landmarks in morning and afternoon but what do i do to replace the evening wind down/reward of drink? Feels like my whole british upbringing was tied to beautiful historic town pubs.

Don’t the pubs serve nonalcoholic drinks or just stay out of pubs. Try spending your evening getting ready for the adventure of the next day. Or go to theater, concerts, shows, and then back to hotel. I like to watch the tv programs of the country I visit, but that might be too laid back for you. :unicorn:

I’ve vacationed before drinking and not drinking. I’ve enjoyed both ways. My problem is? I just cant drink at all bc I cant always control myself. It’s better to find things to do that do not include alcohol.

There will be LOADS to do in London sober! Google sober in London, there are loads of articles at the moment cos it’s dry January.

Galleries, cinemas, theatre, cafés, restaurants will be open later. Plus some sites. Go for a walk and soak up the city. This list has pubs and bars on but loads of non-boozy stuff too. https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/nightlife/101-things-to-do-at-night-in-london

Or of course you could just watch some TV or read a book, have a bath, get an early night and an early morning ready to take on the next day!

Having a holiday that isn’t just about bar hopping is awesome. You’ll have a brilliant time.

There are quite a few sober bars in London. Hope this helps. Aside from this, there are so many great places to visit that don’t involve alcohol. Enjoy x

It’s hard breaking out of those routines and rituals. But once you’re there you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied.

If going into a pub makes you feel uncomfortable, don’t go in. Go to a restaurant, coffee shop, cinema, take in a ghost walk, river boat trip. But honestly, my first sober holiday, I indulged my new found love of sleep and early nights!

What month are you coming over?

Early March. London has so many amazing places. Do you live in Lobdon Sarah?

Nice. It was quite warm in March last year.

I was born in South East London. Live in Brighton now.

Definitely try to catch a musical! I recommend you go to the ticket office the same day and ask for tickets as they offer last minute discounts and that is a loooot of fun!
