I’m just trying to get more support and feedback! I am serious about this new year ! My family knows about the vivitrol shot BUT I feel like hearing good vibes if you have heard any thing? I just know it’s like for opioid cravings don’t really know any thing else so.! HELP lol

Okay sounds like it’ll be fun , so how’s vivitrol related toto naltexone

I know a few friends that are on vivitrol. If you think its gonna work for you get it. It blocks out opiates also. I heard it takes away cravings too. My one friend said it messed with his sex drive, and gave him mood swings. But ive never really heard anything bad about it

Oh I think that sounds like it’ll be fine I don’t even no why it says for alcohol as well, but like thank you so much I really appreciate it and well omg I know a fewfew girls on it but I guess the whole sex drive will be an issue if that’s the case , it’s worth a try though the vivitrol ? I know the methadone is a schedule two narcotic I found out WHICH the vivitrol isn’t addicting so far I’d rather do that and work out cause methadone makes ppl lazy to lol but WHAT ever works !

Dr. Told me naltrexone would be easier on my liver. Has not affected my sex drive.

There’s a documentary called One Little Pill. It examines naltrexone and the positive affects from being on it. They showcase 3 or 4 patients.

The documentary talks about alcohol but naltrexone is also used for opioid dependence.

If anyone has Amazon Prime it’s $1.99 to rent online - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3427772/

One of the patients is actress Claudia Christian.

She also does a Ted Talk on her experience with it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EghiY_s2ts

I’ve recently seen a commercial for over eaters and how naltrexone is also used to moderate their eating habits.

Cool well ILL DEF LOOK INTO IT ,yah the alcohol I dont think I have to worry about, the stuff works I think

Well just checking in to let you all know the job didn’t work out . Yet , but I have not lost hope

Well you KNOW stuff happens so , I just got told shell work on it to try and get me in and explained I’m in recovery something good willto come out of it … thanks for your support lol yo what’s the chance it’ll work …I Do but I will miss this job if it dont happen , I really need this … that’s what happened

Funny I found this post as we talked about vivitrol in our AA big book meeting tonight.

One person attending the meeting takes it and says it works very well.

But the flipside is that yes this drug works well, it still feels like people who are taking it still need to be in some other support group or recovery program as well.

We all agree though that if there is something like vivitrol to help aid in someone becoming sober, then by all means who am I to judge.

I actually think it’s just a lot bit less addicting then methadone , been there And I am fine on this so far ! Did need more support that I’m doing this so day 7 now onto shot , I feel more driven but I do enjoy knowing the fact I’m on my shot . I actually got the idea from treatment in my hometown. And I am hearing more on this but my thoughts are still sober and can’t believe this is here. What a blessed miracle

As far as I believe Vivitrol is the same as Naltrexone. Vivitrol is in the form of an injection shot and Naltrexone is in the pill form but they are the same thing.

It’s not addictive. It just works by binding onto the opioid receptors in our brains that are responsible for the pleasure feelings we get when we engage in our addictions. In layman’s terms it blocks that pleasure feeling we get. So if you were to take an opiate based drug or an alcoholic drink when on this medication, that ‘buzz’ or ‘euphoria’ won’t be there. It would just feel like ‘blah… don’t want any more’ so you stop drinking or taking that drug because you’re not getting any pleasure out of it anymore.

It’s been called ‘the miracle cure’ which I think is very misleading. I’m only on day 2 of taking it so I can’t say otherwise as I haven’t given it a chance to work HOWEVER we still need to be responsible and accountable. I need to carry on taking my pill, no matter how bad things get, I have to fight the desire to take that first drink, I have to attend and engage in my meetings. I’m the one who will be putting in the work to stay sober. This little pill is just a helping hand until I can get to a stage where I can say, yes I have come this far and I am proud and never going back.

Sorry I ended up going on a tangent, I get carried away… :see_no_evil:
